Our ambition is to build a strong, sustainable and connected Women's & Girls' pathway which develops Worcestershire players, increases the depth and quality of our playing pool and provides a clear route from junior cricket into the senior Women's team and, for those with the ambition and ability, into professional cricket.Purpose of the Role:The Head of Women's & Girls' Cricket will have overall responsibility and accountability for the direction, performance and development of Women's & Girls' cricket at Worcestershire County Cricket Club.The role will provide leadership across the entire Worcestershire pathway, from the youngest age groups through to the Women's senior team, ensuring there is a clear and connected approach to identifying, developing and progressing talented players.A key part of the structure will be the line management and development of a dedicated lead for the younger age-group pathway, who will take day-to-day responsibility for coaching and programme delivery within those age groups. The Head of Women's & Girls' Cricket will retain overall accountability for the quality, direction and effectiveness of the whole pathway.The role itself will have a significant hands-on coaching and performance focus, taking direct responsibility for the coaching, development, preparation and performance of the Women's senior team and Under-18 programme.Our ambition is to develop our own players, build a larger group capable of thriving at Tier 2 level and give our most talented and ambitious players the skills, experience and opportunity to progress into professional cricket. Success will therefore be measured not only by results, but by the strength, depth and progression of the Worcestershire player pathway.The postholder will be responsible for establishing the cricketing philosophy, standards, culture and environment of the senior programme - creating a team that is ambitious, competitive, enjoyable to be part of and recognised for developing players.Key Duties and Responsibilities: Provide overall leadership, strategy and accountability for Worcestershire Women's & Girls' performance cricket and the complete player pathway Act as Head Coach of the Worcestershire Women's senior team, EPP and Under-18 programme, leading coaching, training, match preparation, selection, individual player development and performance Establish and lead the culture, playing philosophy, standards and expectations of the senior Women's programme Develop individual players technically, tactically, physically and mentally, with a strong emphasis on helping players maximise their potential Build greater depth within the Worcestershire playing pathway, increasing the number of players capable of progressing into and succeeding within the senior team Create a clear and visible pathway from junior age-group cricket through U18s and into the senior Women's team Make the development of home-grown Worcestershire players a central objective of the programme, while appropriately supplementing the squad where necessary Ensure talented players with the ambition and ability to progress beyond Tier 2 are prepared and supported to pursue opportunities within professional cricket Line manage the junior player pathway lead (who will be responsible for the U16 squad and below), setting clear objectives and ensuring high-quality coaching, talent identification and player development throughout the programme Maintain oversight of all age-group programmes and ensure consistency in coaching philosophy, standards, selection and player development across the pathway Lead the identification, tracking and development of talented players and ensure appropriate individual development plans are in place Maintain strong relationships with clubs, schools, partner counties, Tier 1 organisations and other relevant stakeholders to create the best possible development opportunities for Worcestershire players Be accountable for delivery of the Women's & Girls' Performance Action Plan and all relevant ECB Minimum Quality Standards Lead and complete the administrative and operational requirements associated with the senior programme and maintain overall oversight of administration across the pathway Be responsible for the Women's & Girls' performance budget and ensure resources are deployed effectively against the Club's strategic priorities Work closely with Science & Medicine and other specialist support services to provide an appropriate performance environment for players Lead and manage coaches and other performance staff, creating a collaborative and development-focused coaching team Attend relevant ECB meetings, CPD and performance forums and ensure Worcestershire remains aligned with best practice in women's player development Report on the performance, progression and effectiveness of the Women's & Girls' programme, including the strength and depth of the player pathwayOther responsibilities:We expect our people to demonstrate and promote our values at all times to ensure Worcestershire County Cricket Club's brand is always held in the highest regard both internally and in public. You may be required to take on such reasonable additional or other responsibilities and tasks as we need from time to time.RequirementsPerson Specification:The successful candidate will be an excellent developer of players and leader of a cricket programme, combining high-quality hands-on coaching with the organisational and leadership skills required to oversee the wider pathway. Proven experience of coaching and developing talented cricketers, ideally within a performance environment The ability to lead a senior performance team and create an ambitious, positive and high-performing culture A clear philosophy around player development and the ability to translate that philosophy throughout an entire pathway A strong understanding of long-term player development, including talent identification, individual development planning and the transition from age-group to senior cricket A commitment to developing home-grown talent and increasing the number and quality of players progressing through the Worcestershire system The ability to recognise players with the potential to progress into professional cricket and prepare them for that next step Experience of leading and developing other coaches, including effective line management and delegation Strong organisational and administrative skills and the ability to manage the operational requirements of a performance programme An understanding of the ECB Women's & Girls' pathway and the evolving domestic structure Experience of managing budgets and allocating resources effectively Strong communication and relationship-management skills, including the ability to work effectively with players, parents, coaches, clubs, schools, partner counties and the ECB An understanding of the role of sports science and medicine within player development A flexible attitude to working irregular and unsocial hours, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays The ability to work independently and effectively under pressure A collaborative approach and strong alignment with Worcestershire County Cricket Club's values A full Driving Licence and the means to travel to training and match venuesSafeguarding and Right to Work:This role may involve training, supervising, working with and/or being in sole charge of children and young people.
