The school sets high expectations while providing strong support structures, aiming to positively impact its students and serve as a model for other schools.Role Description The High School Counselor is a full-time, on-site role located in Durham, NC. This role supports students’ academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary planning needs through individual and small-group counseling. The counselor will guide students in course selection, scheduling, and academic planning, while collaborating with teachers and families to address student progress and challenges. Daily responsibilities include providing career and college counseling, coordinating workshops and information sessions, responding to student concerns, and maintaining accurate records and documentation. The counselor will also contribute to school-wide support systems, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and uphold a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.Qualifications Demonstrated skills in student counseling, including social-emotional support and problem-solving.Experience with career counseling and guiding learners through college and postsecondary pathways.Knowledge and experience working with high school students in diverse and inclusive settings.Ability to provide academic advising and support students in course planning and graduation requirements.Background in education, with a strong understanding of secondary school environments and learning needs.Master’s degree in School Counseling, Education, or a related field; appropriate state certification or licensure preferred.Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with students, families, and staff.Ability to manage confidential information, maintain organized records, and use counseling and school information systems.Commitment to equity, culturally responsive practices, and continuous professional growth.
