Educators at THE NEW STANDARD ACADEMY are encouraged to use innovative, data-informed practices to help students reach high expectations.Role Description The High School English Interventionist is a full-time, on-site role based in Flint, MI. This position provides targeted instructional support in English language arts to high school students who need additional assistance to meet grade-level standards. Daily responsibilities include planning and delivering small-group and one-on-one intervention lessons, reinforcing reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills, and aligning support with classroom English curricula. The Interventionist regularly assesses student progress, analyzes data, and collaborates with English teachers, counselors, and administrators to refine intervention plans. Additional duties include maintaining accurate documentation, communicating with families about student growth, participating in professional development, and contributing to a positive and inclusive school culture.Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in high school English language arts, including reading comprehension, writing instruction, grammar, and vocabulary development.Experience designing and implementing targeted academic interventions, progress monitoring, and using assessment data to inform instruction.Strong classroom management, student engagement, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to support diverse learners and varying skill levels.Proficient in lesson planning, curriculum alignment, and collaboration with general education and special education staff.Effective written and verbal communication skills, including clear documentation and regular communication with students, families, and colleagues.Ability to use educational technology and learning platforms to support instruction, track student progress, and enhance engagement.Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field; state teaching certification or eligibility for certification in secondary English is strongly preferred.Previous experience working in middle or high school settings, particularly in intervention, tutoring, or academic support roles, is beneficial.Commitment to equity, culturally responsive practices, and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
