High School English Teacher

Job description:Position OverviewHigh Bluff Academy is seeking a dynamic, student-centered High School English Teacher to join our dedicated faculty. The ideal candidate will be passionate about literature, writing instruction, and critical thinking, and committed to preparing students for college-level academic success.This position includes teaching English 11, English 12, AP English Language and Composition, and AP English Literature and Composition. Certified or willing to become certified to teach AP Seminar and AP Research is preferred but not required.Primary ResponsibilitiesTeach multiple sections of English 11 and English 12 to small class (<15 students per section)Teach AP English Language and AP English Literature courses aligned with College Board standardsDesign engaging, rigorous lesson plans that promote analytical reading, academic writing, and discussionPrepare students for AP examinations through effective instruction and assessment practicesProvide timely and constructive feedback on student writingDifferentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needsMaintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with familiesCollaborate with colleagues to strengthen curriculum and vertical alignmentContribute positively to the school community through advising, committees, or extracurricular involvementQualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related fieldValid state teaching credential (or ability to obtain one)Experience teaching high school EnglishStrong background in literary analysis, research, and composition instructionExcellent communication, organization, and classroom management skillsKnowledge of and/or experience with technology used in modern classroomsPreferred:Experience teaching AP English Language and/or AP English LiteratureFamiliarity with College Board AP curriculum and scoring standardsExperience with AP Seminar and/or AP ResearchDemonstrated success improving student writing outcomesExperience with Microsoft 365 for educationIdeal Candidate ProfilePassionate about fostering intellectual curiosity and a love of reading and writingUnderstands the challenges and opportunities of AI use in the classroomSkilled at guiding students through close reading and sophisticated textual analysisStrong mentor who supports students in developing voice, argumentation, and research skillsCollaborative team member committed to continuous professional growthCompensation and BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experienceProfessional development opportunitiesSupportive and collegial work environmentHow to ApplyInterested candidates should submit:Cover letterResume/CVCopy of teaching credentialThree professional referencesPlease send application materials to: recruitment@highbluffacademy.com with the subject line: High School English Teacher ApplicationHigh Bluff Academy is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in its faculty and staff.
