Apply & track with Apply EdgeThe successful candidate will focus on creating interactions that feel natural, meaningful, understandable, responsive, and socially coherent across conversational, visual, emotional, and multimodal experiences.This is a hands-on role working closely with AI engineers, conversational designers, character designers, writers, UX/UI designers, animators, voice and performance teams, and developers. The role requires a strong understanding of human behavior and interaction design, combined with the ability to work with modern AI systems, large language models, multimodal AI, and interactive digital characters.ResponsibilitiesDesign human-AI interaction models for AI characters, digital humans, virtual humans, and intelligent avatars.Study how users perceive, understand, communicate with, and build relationships with AI-powered characters.Define interaction patterns across conversation, voice, facial expression, gaze, gesture, body language, movement, and other multimodal signals.Design conversational and behavioral flows that allow AI characters to respond naturally to different user intentions, emotions, contexts, and social situations.Develop interaction frameworks covering turn-taking, attention, interruption, clarification, uncertainty, disagreement, conflict, emotional responses, and unexpected user behavior.Collaborate with AI and conversational teams to translate interaction concepts into prompts, system instructions, behavioral rules, response strategies, examples, and evaluation criteria.Design interaction scenarios and user journeys for different character roles, environments, audiences, and use cases.Analyze AI-generated conversations and performances to identify interaction problems such as unnatural responses, repetition, lack of context, inconsistent personality, inappropriate emotional reactions, or broken conversational flow.Develop methods for evaluating interaction quality, including naturalness, responsiveness, coherence, emotional appropriateness, user understanding, trust, engagement, and continuity.Prototype and test new human-AI interaction patterns using conversational AI, multimodal AI, virtual characters, and real-time digital environments.Work with character and animation teams to ensure that verbal responses are appropriately synchronized with facial expressions, gaze, gestures, movement, and voice performance.Collaborate with UX designers to ensure that AI characters are understandable, predictable, accessible, and easy to interact with.Design strategies for managing memory, context, personalization, user preferences, relationships, and continuity across repeated interactions.Study how AI characters should behave when they lack information, misunderstand a user, make mistakes, encounter ambiguity, or need to refuse a request.Develop interaction guidelines for different emotional and social contexts, including empathy, humor, disagreement, persuasion, collaboration, conflict, and sensitive situations.Conduct user testing, role-playing sessions, interaction experiments, and qualitative analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.Document interaction models, behavioral patterns, scenario libraries, design principles, test results, and evaluation frameworks.Monitor emerging developments in human-AI interaction, conversational AI, multimodal AI, embodied agents, social AI, virtual humans, and immersive technologies.Help establish reusable methodologies and standards for designing believable, responsible, and engaging human-AI relationships.QualificationsMinimum BA/MA in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Communication, UX Design, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Game Design, Digital Media, or a related field; advanced research experience is an asset.At least 3–5 years of experience in human-computer interaction, conversational design, UX research, AI interaction, digital characters, virtual humans, interactive media, or a related field.Strong understanding of human behavior, communication, cognition, emotion, social interaction, and user experience.Demonstrable experience designing or analyzing interactive systems, conversational experiences, AI agents, digital characters, or other human-centered technologies.Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), generative AI, conversational AI, AI agents, multimodal AI, or related technologies.Ability to translate human interaction principles into practical AI behaviors, conversational strategies, system instructions, prompts, scenarios, and evaluation frameworks.Experience analyzing AI conversations and identifying problems related to context, intent, personality, emotion, consistency, memory, and user experience.Understanding of multimodal interaction, including voice, facial expression, gaze, gesture, body language, animation, and real-time character performance.Experience with user research, usability testing, qualitative analysis, interviews, observation, role-playing, or behavioral experiments.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify subtle interaction failures and propose practical improvements.Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and presentation skills.Ability to work effectively across AI, UX, design, animation, narrative, engineering, and production disciplines.Familiarity with tools and environments such as Figma, FigJam, Miro, Notion, Unreal Engine, Unity, conversational AI platforms, or prototyping tools is an asset.A strong portfolio demonstrating relevant interaction design, AI, conversational, UX, digital character, or interactive projects.Fluency in English;
