Apply & track with Apply EdgeJob Role : HVAC Performance EngineerRole: HVAC Performance EngineerLocation: Auburn Hills, MI (Onsite)Duration: 12+ MonthsPosition OverviewWe are seeking an HVAC Performance Engineer to support next-generation Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle thermal system development. The ideal candidate will contribute to advanced EV technology initiatives by performing thermal system testing, instrumentation, analysis, and troubleshooting to improve vehicle efficiency, range performance, and customer experience.Candidates with experience from automotive OEMs, EV technology companies, research organizations, or engineering universities are preferred. Target backgrounds include Ford, GM, Valeo, Denso, LG Chem, CATL, Samsung SDI, GE Aircraft, Caterpillar, John Deere, Honda, Cummins, EPA, CARB, NREL, Argonne National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and related automotive engineering environments. Candidates from universities such as Ohio State University, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, University of Windsor, and Clemson University are also encouraged to apply.Role ResponsibilitiesPerform vehicle thermal system instrumentation, testing, validation, and performance analysis.Support BEV and ICE HVAC system diagnosis, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.Develop and evaluate energy consumption improvement solutions for electric vehicles.Support HVAC system development activities, including functional testing and validation.Conduct thermal system testing using data acquisition tools and analyze airflow, water flow, and heat transfer performance.Support vehicle validation plans, DVP&R testing, reporting, and issue tracking.Collaborate with program teams, lab engineers, product teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to achieve vehicle performance objectives.Participate in thermal development reviews, test planning, and vehicle-level assessments.Provide technical recommendations and communicate test results, risks, and improvement opportunities.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.1–3+ years of relevant engineering experience in thermal systems, HVAC, automotive testing, or vehicle development.Hands-on experience with thermal testing, instrumentation, data collection, and engineering analysis.Strong understanding of heat transfer principles, airflow management, water flow systems, and thermal performance.Experience working with HVAC systems, cooling systems, or vehicle thermal management.Ability to troubleshoot complex thermal and energy system issues.Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.Mandatory Technical SkillsVehicle Thermal System Testing & ValidationHVAC System DevelopmentData Acquisition SystemsThermal Drive CyclesEnergy System AnalysisVehicle Testing and InstrumentationDrive Cell and/or Wind Tunnel Testing experienceThermal development and cooling system knowledgePreferred QualificationsExperience supporting BEV thermal management systems and EV energy optimization.Familiarity with automotive validation processes and vehicle development programs.Experience working with engineering technicians/mechanics and test teams.Chauffeur’s license or willingness to obtain one.Strong analytical mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
