Hydraulic Consultant/Engineer

About the roleMeakins Australia is seeking an experienced hydraulic services engineer to join our specialist design and consulting firm. You will be responsible for engineering design and delivery of hydraulic building services, including cold and heated water, sanitary plumbing and drainage, sewer, stormwater and associated systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on significant and technically challenging projects while being part of a small, specialist consultancy, with exposure to the full project lifecycle from early scoping through to construction completion.Key responsibilitiesEngineering design and delivery of hydraulic building services, including cold and heated water, sanitary plumbing and drainage, sewer, stormwater and associated systemsUndertaking engineering calculations, system sizing, analysis and technical assessments to support hydraulic design solutionsDeveloping practical, technically sound and buildable solutions that consider both design requirements and construction outcomesManaging hydraulic projects from initial scoping and concept design through documentation, tender, construction and completionProviding technical advice to clients, architects, builders, contractors and other project stakeholdersPreparing and reviewing engineering reports, calculations, specifications, design documentation and tender informationCoordinating hydraulic services with architectural, structural and other building services disciplinesEnsuring designs comply with the NCC, relevant Australian Standards, authority requirements and project-specific requirementsAttending design meetings, site inspections and project meetings and providing technical input throughout the project lifecycleProviding construction-phase engineering support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing contractor submissions, resolving site issues and undertaking defect inspectionsMaintaining strong relationships with clients and providing a responsive and reliable point of contact throughout project delivery.About youA recognised tertiary qualification in Engineering3+ years experience in hydraulic building services design within the Australian construction industry, across commercial and/or complex building projectsStrong technical knowledge of hydraulic services design, engineering principles and construction methodologiesA sound understanding of the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards, authority requirements and industry regulationsExperience managing hydraulic projects through the design, documentation and construction phasesThe ability to develop practical, coordinated and buildable hydraulic solutionsExperience working with architects, builders, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teamsStrong client-facing skills and the ability to build trusted, professional relationshipsStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical informationThe ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within project timeframesExperience in healthcare projects will be highly regarded but is not essential.BenefitsExposure to Tier 1 projects – work on significant and technically challenging projects while being part of a small, specialist consultancyManageable project workloads – we deliberately limit project loads so our team can remain accessible to clients, maintain quality and give each project the attention it deservesFlexible working arrangements – including the opportunity to work from homeDirect access to experienced hydraulic specialists – work alongside and learn from professionals with extensive technical and practical industry experienceWhole-of-project involvement – gain exposure from early project scoping and concept design through documentation, construction and completionPaid professional memberships – we cover the cost of relevant professional memberships to support your industry involvement and ongoing developmentAbout usMeakins Australia is a specialist hydraulic services design and consulting firm delivering practical, high-quality and buildable solutions across a diverse range of projects and sectors.
