Apply & track with Apply EdgePosition: Information Technology LeaderDepartment: Information TechnologyIndustry: IndyCar RacingPosition SummaryThe Information Technology Leader is responsible for shaping and delivering the technology strategy that supports an IndyCar racing team’s competition, operations, communications, and business functions. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with effective communication, planning, and relationship-management skills.The ideal candidate can operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance environment; translate technical concepts into clear business decisions; and build reliable, secure technology systems that support both trackside and office-based teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the team’s overall IT strategy, roadmap, budget planning, and day-to-day technology operations.Build, manage, mentor, and develop IT staff, contractors, and technology partners.Ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing IT services across team facilities, race events, remote locations, and mobile environments.Oversee core technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, endpoints, cloud platforms, identity and access management, backup, and disaster recovery capabilities.Partner with engineering, competition, logistics, commercial, communications, and administrative teams to understand their technology needs and deliver practical solutions.Support race-weekend technology readiness, including connectivity, communications systems, hardware deployment, troubleshooting, and escalation management.Establish and maintain cybersecurity policies, security controls, incident-response procedures, and user-awareness practices.Manage technology vendors, contracts, licensing, service-level expectations, and equipment lifecycle planning.Develop clear standards for IT documentation, asset management, change management, and support processes.Assess emerging technologies and recommend investments that improve collaboration, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.Communicate technology priorities, project status, risks, and recommendations to leadership and nontechnical stakeholders in a concise, actionable manner.Lead response and recovery during high-priority technology incidents, maintaining calm and clear communication with affected teams.Required Technical QualificationsDemonstrated experience leading IT operations, infrastructure, or technology teams in a high-demand environment.Strong knowledge of enterprise networking, including wired and wireless networks, secure remote connectivity, network monitoring, and troubleshooting.Experience with cloud services, endpoint management, identity and access management, collaboration tools, and cybersecurity controls.Knowledge of systems administration, hardware lifecycle management, backup and recovery, and business-continuity planning.Experience managing vendors, technology budgets, contracts, and implementation projects.Ability to evaluate technical risks, prioritize work, and make sound decisions under time-sensitive conditions.Familiarity with data protection, secure communications, and technology governance practices.Communication and Leadership QualificationsExceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.Strong stakeholder-management skills and a collaborative, service-oriented approach.Ability to lead through ambiguity, prioritize competing needs, and maintain focus in a fast-paced racing environment.Proven ability to build trust with leadership, team members, vendors, and cross-functional partners.Comfortable presenting recommendations, project plans, risks, and investment decisions to senior leadership.Strong people-leadership skills, including coaching, delegation, performance management, and team development.High degree of professionalism, discretion, accountability, and attention to detail.Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting technology in motorsports, professional sports, live events, manufacturing, engineering, or similarly mobile and time-critical environments.Experience with trackside, remote-site, or event-based IT operations.Relevant certifications in networking, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, IT service management, or project management.Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.Working EnvironmentThis position may require travel to race events, occasional nontraditional work hours, and on-call availability to support technology operations during critical team activities. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in an environment where reliability, responsiveness, teamwork, and clear communication are essential.
