Apply & track with Apply EdgeInfrastructure EngineerNewton Abbot | £42,000 – £47,000 | Office-basedIf you’re an experienced Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys being hands-on with the technology you support, solving complex problems and getting involved in infrastructure improvements and projects, this could be an interesting next move.We’re recruiting for a well-established business in Newton Abbot looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join its IT team.This is an office-based role, working as part of the team on-site in Newton Abbot. You’ll have exposure to a broad, business-critical technology environment, combining day-to-day infrastructure support with improvement work and wider technical projects.It’s a varied position where you’ll be able to troubleshoot complex issues, improve resilience and performance, and contribute to how the infrastructure develops.What you’ll be doingYour day-to-day work will include:Supporting and maintaining server, network and infrastructure environmentsAdministering Windows Server and Microsoft 365 / Exchange OnlineSupporting VMware and/or Hyper-V virtual environmentsWorking with networking technologies including VLANs and VPNsSupporting infrastructure across on-premise, hosted and Azure environmentsMonitoring performance, availability and capacity and identifying potential issues before they become problemsManaging patching and supporting infrastructure securityTroubleshooting more complex infrastructure issues as a 2nd/3rd line escalation pointUsing PowerShell to improve and automate administrationWorking with third-party and hosting providersTesting and implementing infrastructure, hardware and software changesContributing to infrastructure improvements and wider technical projectsKeeping technical documentation up to dateWhat we’re looking forYou’ll need a good grounding in infrastructure and experience supporting a business-critical IT environment.Your background is likely to include several of the following:Windows ServerVMware and/or Hyper-VMicrosoft 365 / Exchange OnlineNetworking, including VLANs and VPNsPowerShellAzureSAN/storage technologiesInfrastructure monitoring, security and patchingYou don’t need to have worked with every technology on the list. We’re more interested in strong infrastructure fundamentals, good troubleshooting skills and someone who understands how the different parts of an environment fit together.Experience with Cisco Meraki or HP networking would be useful, as would exposure to Linux/Unix, DevOps, ITIL or infrastructure project delivery.You’ll suit the role if you enjoy being hands-on, solving problems and taking ownership. You’ll be working as part of a team, so being able to communicate clearly, share knowledge and manage competing priorities will be just as important as the technology.Salary: £42,000 – £47,000
