EO enables learners to access IIT Bombay’s world-class faculty and research expertise through online, hybrid, and in-person programs that blend academic depth with industry relevance.Role Overview:The Instructional Designer will design and develop high-quality, learner-centric experiences for IIT Bombay’s Educational Outreach initiatives.The role involves working closely with faculty, subject-matter experts, and cross-functional teams to structure academic and technical content into effective online, blended, and instructor-led learning experiences.We are particularly looking for instructional designers who can go beyond using GenAI tools and identify, prototype, and build AI-enabled tools, agents, automations, and workflows that improve learning design and course development.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with faculty and SMEs to define learning outcomes, course structures, learning journeys, and instructional strategies.Develop presentations, storyboards, assessments, learner resources, and interactive e-learning assets.Curate and simplify complex academic and technical content into structured, learner-friendly formats.Apply instructional design principles, adult learning theories, and Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy to course and assessment design.Build e-learning assets using tools such as Articulate 360 and support LMS-based learning experiences.Conduct instructional and quality reviews covering learning effectiveness, accuracy, accessibility, copyright, and academic integrity.Identify opportunities to use AI and automation within instructional design, content development, assessment, review, and quality-assurance workflows.Prototype, build, test, and refine AI-enabled assistants, agents, tools, or automated workflows for learning-development use cases.Experiment with emerging AI and learning technologies and help develop reusable tools, practices, and workflows for the team.Manage multiple course-development activities while meeting agreed timelines and quality standards.Desired Experience / Skills:Bsc/Msc in a relevant field; candidates with formal training or certification in Instructional Design or e-learning tools will be preferred.2+ years of experience in Instructional Design or a related field OR relevant education in Instructional Design/Educational Technology Demonstrated experience creating AI-enabled tools, custom assistants/GPTs, agents, automations, or workflows will be strongly preferred.Strong understanding of instructional design, adult learning, learning outcomes, assessment design, and learner-centred course development.Strong PowerPoint, storyboarding, content-structuring, and visualisation skills.Hands-on experience with Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, or equivalent e-learning authoring tools.Familiarity with LMS platforms and digital-learning environments.Hands-on experience using Generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT/OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, or equivalent.Familiarity with platforms such as n8n, Make, Zapier, Power Automate, or equivalent automation tools will be an advantage.Exposure to APIs, Python, JavaScript, or other technologies used to integrate or extend AI solutions will be an added advantage; advanced software-development experience is not mandatory.Strong analytical, project-management, stakeholder-management, and communication skills.Ability to responsibly evaluate AI outputs for accuracy, privacy, copyright, bias, and academic integrity.Please note:This is a Mumbai-based, on-campus role at IIT Bombay.
