Our partner is looking for an Integrations EDI Lead Engineer based in the United States.As an Integrations EDI Lead Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in modernizing enterprise healthcare interoperability.You will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable EDI, HL7, and FHIR integration solutions.The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, architecture, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration.You will help evolve traditional batch-based EDI processes toward cloud-native, real-time interoperability.Your work will support critical healthcare data exchange between payers, providers, clearinghouses, and technology partners.You will also influence engineering standards, reliability, observability, and platform modernization at scale.This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the future of healthcare integration while helping a growing engineering team deliver meaningful technology solutions.AccountabilitiesLead technical architecture and implementation for enterprise healthcare integration initiatives spanning HIPAA X12 transactions, HL7, and FHIR APIs.Design and develop scalable data exchange solutions, transformation workflows, mappings, validation frameworks, error handling, and reconciliation processes.Build and maintain integrations connecting internal platforms with payers, providers, clearinghouses, and third-party vendors.Guide the modernization of legacy EDI capabilities toward microservices, event-driven architectures, cloud-native deployments, and real-time interoperability.Establish engineering standards, lead design reviews, promote best practices, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.Partner with DevOps and SRE teams to automate deployments, improve scalability and resiliency, strengthen observability, and maintain high availability for mission-critical transaction processing.Monitor system performance, investigate production issues, and contribute to incident resolution and continuous reliability improvements.Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Business Analysis, and external partners to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.Drive strategic modernization initiatives, improve transaction throughput, and introduce scalable FHIR-enabled integration capabilities.Help establish a modern integration ecosystem and influence the long-term architecture of healthcare data exchange.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years focused on healthcare EDI.Strong expertise in HIPAA X12 transactions, including 837, 835, 270/271, 276/277, and 278, as well as solid knowledge of HL7 and FHIR standards.Hands-on programming experience with Java, C#, Go, or comparable languages.Proven experience developing REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native development practices.Strong knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases, performance optimization, and high-volume transaction processing.Understanding of healthcare interoperability, data governance, security best practices, and payer workflows or claims processing.Strong technical leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.Experience working independently while providing technical direction and collaborating effectively across engineering, product, business, and vendor teams.Preferred: experience with Edifecs xEngine, XEServer, EAM, or SpecBuilder.Preferred: experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, along with knowledge of SMART on FHIR, OAuth2, and OpenID Connect.Preferred: previous experience leading technical teams and driving enterprise-scale modernization initiatives.Benefits$140,000 annual salaryCompetitive compensation and annual bonus program.401(k) retirement plan with company match.Company-paid life insurance.Company-paid short-term disability coverage, subject to location restrictions.Medical, vision, and dental benefits.Paid time off and paid sick time.Paid parental leave.Paid company holidays and floating holidays.Quarterly company-sponsored events.Health and wellness programs.Career development and professional growth opportunities.Remote opportunities available in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.A collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on innovation, continuous improvement, and meaningful healthcare technology.How Jobgether WorksWe use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
