Java Software Engineer

This role sits within an Investment Banking technology team delivering and enhancing an Equity Derivatives (EQD) Prime inventory management platform. You will build low-latency, resilient services and tools that support inventory, locate, stock borrow/loan workflows, eligibility, and real-time risk and funding impacts. You will partner closely with front office, operations, and risk stakeholders to deliver secure, auditable solutions in a regulated environment.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain Java-based services and APIs for inventory capture, allocation, optimization, and reconciliation.Deliver event-driven and batch processing pipelines for market and reference data, positions, and trades.Optimize performance and latency; profile JVM behaviour, GC, and threading to meet throughput SLAs.Implement robust testing (unit, integration, contract) and automate deployments via CI/CD.Collaborate with quant, traders, and business analysts to translate requirements into technical deliverables.Required Skills & ExperienceStrong Java, including concurrency, collections, and performance tuning.Experience building distributed systems using REST/gRPC and messaging (Kafka, JMS, or similar).Solid SQL skills and experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL) and schema design.Proficiency with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito) and build tools (Maven/Gradle).Experience with CI/CD and version control (Git); familiarity with containerization is advantageous.Knowledge of investment banking workflows; exposure to prime services, stock borrow/loan, equity derivatives, or inventory/locates is highly desirable.Strong communication skills, ability to work with global teams, and a delivery-focused mindset.EducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
