(Junior) PHP Backend Engineer

If writing clean, efficient PHP code is your thing, this is the place to be.You Will:You develop payment services — from conception and API development to operation. The platform processes several million transactions per day across multiple data centers.You'll build new services with Symfony 8 (Doctrine ORM, Messenger) and further develop existing services from PHP 8.3 onwards — you decide where it leads.You work in FrankenPHP in worker mode: long-lived processes, no bootstrap per request, no state that survives a request.You divide business logic into domains with clear layering — entities, services, repositories, explicit contracts. Business logic remains free from infrastructure.You incorporate resilience into the design: failover across multiple data centers, asynchronous processing with messenger, and you decide what stays synchronized.You make performance measurable: OpenTelemetry traces, slow query logs, optimized queries and indexes, caching via Redis and APCuYou'll be working with PHPStan Level 8 without a baseline, Slevomat, Rector, or code reviews that focus on design, not formatting. You'll be collaborating with the people who built this platform and can answer your questions.

Requirements

You have good programming skills in at least one language, a high level of comprehension, and enjoy software development.You have solid experience in PHP development; knowledge of a modern PHP framework such as Symfony or Laravel is desirable.You are proficient in relational databases, Git, Docker, and working in a Linux shell environment. Experience with AI-based tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, Gemini, Windsurf) is an advantage.You have high quality standards and work in a structured and careful manner. Your fluent German and English skills, both spoken and written, make you the perfect fit.
