This gives our engineering team the opportunity to solve real operational challenges in active restaurant environments and build technology informed by firsthand industry experience.The OpportunityWe’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer with prior hands-on development experience who is ready to take on more responsibility and help build our platform from the ground up.This role is ideal for someone who has already contributed to working software, is comfortable with development fundamentals, and wants to grow through meaningful production work, code reviews, and guidance from experienced engineers.You will build backend services, APIs, integrations, and AI-powered features while learning how to develop and operate reliable software on AWS. You will own well-defined tasks and features, with support on technical design and more complex implementation decisions.As an early employee, you will work closely with the engineering team and founders, see how your work supports real restaurant operations, and take on broader responsibilities as your skills and the company grow.What You’ll DoBuild and improve backend services using TypeScript and Node.jsDevelop APIs and contribute to integrations with payments, POS platforms, reservations, messaging, and delivery servicesWork with relational databases to implement data models, write queries, and support product featuresWrite automated tests and help keep features reliable as the platform evolvesWork with CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and services running on AWSDebug issues, investigate application logs, and help resolve problems in development and productionContribute to AI-powered features using LLM APIs, tool calling, and structured outputs, with guidance from experienced engineersUse modern AI coding tools to accelerate development while understanding, reviewing, and testing the code you deliverParticipate in code reviews, document your work, and apply feedback to improve code qualityCollaborate with engineers, founders, and restaurant operators to turn well-defined requirements into working softwareWhat We’re Looking ForApproximately 1–3 years of software development experience, or equivalent hands-on experience delivering and maintaining working softwarePractical experience with TypeScript or JavaScript, and familiarity with Node.jsExperience building or contributing to backend services and APIsUnderstanding of SQL, relational databases, and basic data modelingFamiliarity with Git, code reviews, automated testing, and debuggingSome hands-on exposure to AWS or another cloud platformFamiliarity with CI/CD concepts and modern software delivery practicesExperience using Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI development tools, with a willingness to understand and validate generated codeStrong problem-solving and communication skills, openness to feedback, and the ability to take ownership of assigned workNice to HaveExperience with PostgreSQLExposure to LLM APIs, tool calling, structured outputs, or conversational AIExperience integrating third-party APIs, webhooks, or payment servicesContributions to a production application, startup product, or open-source projectFamiliarity with application security, authentication, and data privacy fundamentalsInterest in restaurant technology, hospitality, or multilingual productsWhat We OfferCompetitive compensation based on experience, skills, location, and the scope of the roleMeaningful equity ownership in an early-stage companyMedical, dental, and vision benefitsOpportunities for mentorship, hands-on learning, and increasing technical responsibilityThe opportunity to contribute to the product and engineering culture from the beginningDirect exposure to restaurant operators and real-world product environmentsA collaborative team focused on building technology that delivers measurable valueSignificant opportunities for professional growth as the company expandsEqual Opportunity8beehives is an equal-opportunity employer.
