Location: UAE / GCCBusiness Unit: Water ServicesExperience: 3-7 YearsReporting To: Technical Lead Water Design Engineer / Project ManagerPosition OverviewCDM Smith is seeking a motivated Junior Water Design Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of water infrastructure projects across the GCC region.

The successful candidate will assist in the design of water transmission and distribution networks, sewerage systems, stormwater drainage networks, TSE systems, pumping stations, and related municipal infrastructure projects.The role offers an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists while gaining exposure to major infrastructure programs for government authorities, developers, and utility clients across the Middle East.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & EngineeringAssist in the design and analysis of:Water transmission and distribution networksSewerage and wastewater collection systemsStormwater drainage networksTSE and irrigation systemsPumping stations and reservoirsPrepare engineering calculations, design reports, technical notes, and specifications.Support feasibility studies, concept designs, preliminary designs, and detailed design stages.Produce engineering drawings and design documentation in coordination with BIM and CAD teams.Hydraulic ModellingDevelop and update hydraulic models for water, wastewater, and stormwater networks.Perform simulations and capacity assessments under the supervision of senior engineers.Analyze model outputs and prepare technical recommendations.Assist in master planning and infrastructure assessment studies.Project SupportSupport Technical Leads and Project Managers in project delivery activities.Assist in coordinating multidisciplinary inputs from civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.Participate in project meetings and technical workshops.Ensure assigned tasks are completed within scheduled timelines.Authority & Client CoordinationSupport preparation of submissions for utility authorities and government agencies.Assist in the NOC and design approval process.Participate in client meetings and technical review workshops when required.Respond to technical comments under senior supervision.Quality & ComplianceAdhere to CDM Smith quality management procedures and project standards.Ensure designs comply with local authority requirements, international codes, and client specifications.Perform design checks and coordinate revisions as required.Construction SupportAssist in reviewing contractor submissions, shop drawings, RFIs, and material approvals.Provide engineering support during tendering and construction phases.Participate in site visits and inspections when required.Required QualificationsEducationBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.Master's Degree in Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline is advantageous.Experience3-7 years of experience in water infrastructure design.GCC project experience preferred.Experience working on municipal infrastructure, utility, or development projects.Familiarity with local authority standards within UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, or Kuwait is desirable.Technical SkillsExperience or exposure to:Water transmission and distribution systemsSewerage and wastewater networksStormwater drainage systemsTSE and irrigation systemsHydraulic and hydrologic analysisInfrastructure master planning studiesConcept, preliminary, and detailed design developmentSoftware RequirementsKnowledge of one or more of the following:WaterGEMSSewerGEMSInfoWorks ICMHEC-RASHEC-HMSArcGISAutoCAD Civil 3DMicroStation (preferred)Revit/BIM platformsKey CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsGood understanding of water and wastewater engineering principlesAbility to work effectively in multidisciplinary teamsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAttention to detail and commitment to qualityAbility to manage multiple tasks and deadlinesEagerness to learn and develop technical expertisePreferred AttributesGCC infrastructure project experience.Understanding of local authority submission and approval processes.Experience working in international engineering consulting environments.Interest in sustainable and resilient water infrastructure solutions.
