Junior Yacht Surveyor – MonacoMARE Marine Experts is looking for a Junior Yacht Surveyor to join its growing team in Monaco.This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career marine professional who wishes to develop specialist expertise in yacht surveying, marine insurance claims and technical investigations.The successful candidate will work alongside experienced surveyors on condition surveys, damage inspections, repair monitoring and insurance-related assignments involving large yachts and superyachts.Location requirementsThe role is based in Monaco and requires regular attendance on yachts, at shipyards and at marinas throughout the French Riviera and Northern Italy.Candidates should therefore:Already live within reasonable travelling distance of Monaco, or be willing to relocate to the Monaco, Nice or French Riviera areaHold a valid driving licence and be able to travel independently to ports, shipyards and marinas, and have available car when neededBe available for occasional travel within the Mediterranean and, when required, internationallyHave the flexibility to attend urgent surveys and casualty inspectionsThe ideal candidate will bringA technical qualification in naval architecture, marine engineering, mechanical engineering or a related maritime disciplinePrevious practical experience in the yacht or superyacht sectorFamiliarity with yacht construction, machinery, onboard systems, refit works or technical managementExperience gained onboard yachts, in a shipyard, with a yacht management company, classification society, marine engineering company or specialist contractorA sound understanding of marine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systemsStrong attention to detail and an analytical approach to technical problemsGood organisational skills and the ability to collect, structure and verify technical informationAttitude to report writing, diligence and precisionConfidence when communicating with captains, chief engineers, yacht managers, shipyards and contractorsEnglish language requirementsExcellent English is essential for this position.Candidates must be able to:Communicate confidently in spoken English during onboard inspections and technical meetingsRead and understand technical manuals, specifications, service reports and repair documentationPrepare clear, accurate and professionally structured survey reports in EnglishSummarise technical findings and explain them in a concise and objective mannerFrench or Italian would be an advantage, but are not essential.What sets you apartGenuine interest in yachts, marine engineering and technical investigationsExperience with yacht refits, maintenance, new construction or warranty worksFamiliarity with classification requirements, flag regulations or yacht safety standardsAbility to interpret drawings, quotations, repair specifications and technical reportsStrong photographic documentation and report-writing skillsA professional, reliable and discreet approach when working onboard high-profile yachtsWillingness to learn about marine insurance, damage causation, repair assessment and claims proceduresMain responsibilitiesWorking under the supervision of senior surveyors, the Junior Yacht Surveyor will assist with:Yacht condition and risk-management surveysHull and machinery damage inspectionsCasualty and incident investigationsInspection and documentation of damaged componentsMonitoring of repair and refit worksReview of technical reports, quotations and repair specificationsCollection of vessel particulars, certificates, maintenance records and supporting documentationPreparation of photographic records and survey notesDrafting of survey reports in EnglishLiaison with yacht crews, managers, shipyards, contractors and technical specialistsFollow-up of recommendations and outstanding technical informationWhat we offerA structured training and mentoring programmeDirect exposure to experienced marine surveyors and claims specialistsA clear professional development path towards becoming an independent Yacht SurveyorContinuous technical and marine insurance trainingExperience on high-profile yachts, complex damage cases and major refit projectsAn international working environment in the heart of Monaco’s yachting industryCompetitive compensation aligned with qualifications and experienceAbout MARE Marine ExpertsMARE Marine Experts is an international marine surveying and consultancy firm providing technical services to marine insurers, P&I Clubs, brokers, maritime lawyers, yacht owners and yacht managers.Our work includes yacht condition surveys, hull and machinery claims, casualty investigations, repair monitoring, risk assessment and technical dispute support.The company operates internationally, with a strong presence in Monaco, Italy, the French Riviera and the principal Mediterranean yachting centres.
