Company DescriptionHEALANT® (previously: Valence Technologies) is a material science spin-off from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and is developing HEALANT®, a cutting-edge self-healing material. Our goal is to create the next generation of puncture-proof car and bike tires. We are looking for a hands-on Chemistry Lab Technician to join our growing R&D team, support our formulation chemistry work, and ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of our laboratory.Position R&D Execution & FormulationPerform chemical synthesis, formulation, and sample preparation for self-healing polymer systems following established protocolsSupport the development, testing, optimization, and reproducibility of experimental formulationsMaintain structured, clear, and accurate laboratory records and experimental documentation Lab Management & OperationsMaintain an organized, safe, and efficient chemistry laboratory in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)Manage raw material stocks, monitor chemical inventory levels, and coordinate laboratory procurement ordersEnsure proper labeling, safe storage, SDS availability, and hazard management for all chemicals and samplesPerform routine checks, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment Team Support & MentorshipGuide and train chemistry interns on laboratory procedures, safety protocols, equipment operation, and record-keepingCollaborate closely with chemists and materials engineers within the multidisciplinary R&D teamRequirementsProfessional Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Laboratory Technology, Materials Science, or a related fieldLimited professional experience is perfectly acceptable; strong practical lab experience gained during studies or internships is sufficientComfortable with hands-on synthesis, formulation work, chemical handling, and sample preparationMethodical, reliable, and detail-oriented, with the initiative to take full ownership of lab inventory and organizationStrong commitment to laboratory safety protocols and an openness to guide and mentor interns once onboardedGood communication skills in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of Dutch or French is an asset for local supplier communicationMust hold EU work authorization (EU/EEA/Swiss citizenship or valid Belgian work permit).
