Landscape Overseer - Cattle & Conservation

About the roleBased within the extraordinary Western Deserts landscape at Challa Station, this role will help lead the production of high-quality, ecologically sound beef across a herd of 3,000 head, support the conservation of multiple rare and threatened species, and use and maintain large earth-moving equipment for landscape rehabilitation. This full-time, ongoing role offers a strong opportunity for a capable person looking to engage in genuinely sustainable beef cattle production.Please note that this role is open to Australian citizens and permanent residents only.Key responsibilitiesOverseeing cattle and land management activities, and leading staff to execute operational plans across the aggregated Challa, Meeline, Narndee and Boodanoo StationsManaging best practice in animal welfare and quality assuranceMaintaining accurate records, including cattle numbers and movements, vaccinations, timesheets, and bore recordsOverseeing maintenance of fences, yards, watering points, and general infrastructureOperating heavy machinery, including for on-station contracts, and keeping it maintained to spec with up-to-date service recordsSupporting the science team with field monitoring, applied conservation work, landscape rehabilitation, and surveysReporting and data entry using tools such as AgriWeb and MicrosoftLeading with a focus on safety, performance, and integrityRepresenting the Forever Wild Initiative professionallyAbout youExperience working and staying safe in remote landscapesAble to work confidently under remote guidance, with integrity and timelinessMinimum three years' rural industry experience, including cattle handlingStrong organisational skills across a busy, logistically complex environmentCompetent and experienced on motorbikesModerate to high physical fitness for station workAble to lead and supervise a small team to a budget and timelineStrong communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of sustainable rangeland management or applied conservationCurrent manual driver's licenceHR licence (or able to obtain one within 6 months)Competent heavy machinery operator, including maintenance, with relevant tickets or the ability to obtain themAre an Australian citizen or permanent resident.Desirable: HC/MC Licence, machinery tickets, degree or diploma in agriculture (regenerative focus preferred), conservation biology, or another land management fieldAbout usThe Forever Wild Initiative is a unique hybrid organisation working in high-value biodiversity landscapes across Queensland and Western Australia.
