The Lead CNC Machinist is a hands-on machining position responsible for setting up and operating CNC equipment while providing daily leadership and support to the 3rd Shift machining team, including coordination of workflow, troubleshooting production and equipment issues, training and assisting team members, and promoting safe, efficient, and quality-focused manufacturing practices.This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position located on-site at our headquarters and production facility in Walker, MI.ResponsibilitiesCorrectly set-up and operate multiple CNC mills, lathes, and broaches in a production environmentPerform 1st piece, in-process and last piece part inspection using calipers, gauges, and other measurement tools to ensure part is produced to specWork from CAD prints, other specifications to design, build and repair fixture, tools, gauges and any other items needed to aid in manufacturing process of the plantDe-burr, key, balance, and box final partsDiagnose, correct, and maintain equipment and tool issuesProvide day-today direction and support to other team members within the assigned work areaAssist team members with machine setups, troubleshooting, inspection requirements, tooling and process questionsParticipate in root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to machining and production issues while working collaboratively with engineering, quality, production and other departments to resolve issuesMaintain workstation and equipment to 5S standardsOperate other machinery such as forklifts, air compressors, broachesMake recommendations to optimize and improve processesComply with all AMG policies and proceduresElements of SuccessMultiple years of prior experience with successfully operating CNC controlled machineryAnalytical problem-solving skills and ability to contribute in a cross-collaborative environmentDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot CNC machines, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processesAbility to train and assist other employeeAbility to effectively communicate with team members, supervisors and other departmentsProficient in CAD/GD&T and Blueprint readingBasic MS Office Word and Excel skillsRequirementsHigh school diploma/equivalent or higher; additional technical education preferredCompletion of a machinist apprenticeship or equivalent combination of education and experience5+ years of relevant CNC machining experienceAbility to perform basic math functionsAbility to lift up to 50 pounds periodically
