We are a hands-on design and manufacturing company with an experienced in-house team of bag makers and production specialists.Everything we make is produced through our vertically integrated operation. Our designers work directly with the people building the products, allowing us to move quickly from concept to prototype to finished product.We are looking for a Lead Designer who wants to be deeply involved in that process and cares about both the creative vision and how a product is actually made.The RoleThe Lead Designer will oversee the design and development of new HARVEYS bags, accessories, and collections, including original designs and licensed collaborations with brands such as Mattel, Warner Bros., Disney, and others.This is a highly hands on role. You will take ideas from concept and illustration through construction, prototyping, refinement, and final production, working closely with our in house makers throughout the process.The ideal candidate has a strong creative point of view, excellent attention to detail, good construction skills, and a strong sense of urgency. You should be creative and quirky, but also conscientious, organized, practical, and willing to push projects through to meet deadlines.Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of bags and accessories from concept through production
- Create sketches, illustrations, technical drawings, and design specifications
- Establish creative direction for products and collections while maintaining the HARVEYS aesthetic
- Work closely with in house makers and production throughout prototyping and development
- Solve construction, material, hardware, and functionality challenges
- Review prototypes and samples and make detailed revisions
- Research materials, colors, hardware, trends, and construction techniques
- Develop seasonal collections, original concepts, and collaborative collections
- Balance creativity with functionality, production feasibility, and commercial considerations
- Manage multiple projects and keep development moving toward deadlines
- Communicate clearly with makers, pattern makers, production staff, and the broader creative teamWhat We’re Looking For
- Proven experience designing handbags, accessories, fashion products, or similarly constructed products
- Strong portfolio demonstrating original design, illustration, and product development
- Strong understanding of bag construction, sewing, materials, hardware, and functionality
- Good hands on construction skills
- Excellent sketching and illustration skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and a conscientious approach to work
- Ability to take a concept from sketch through prototype and final production
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- A strong sense of urgency and the ability to push projects forward when deadlines are at risk
- Comfortable working directly with skilled makers in a hands on, vertically integrated environment
