Lead Software EngineerManchester City Centre | .NET / C# / Azure / TypeScript | PermanentHybrid / Flexible Recann is currently recruiting for a Lead Software Engineer to join a growing professional services organisation based in Manchester City Centre.This is a particularly interesting opportunity for an experienced software engineer who wants more than simply joining an established development team and working through a predefined backlog.Our client is investing in the continued development of a business-critical, cloud-based platform used across the organisation. They are now looking to strengthen their internal engineering capability and appoint an experienced engineer who can take genuine technical ownership of the platform while remaining hands-on with development.You will play a key role in shaping how the platform evolves, improving engineering standards and helping establish the technical foundations for the future development team.The roleYou will be responsible for:Leading the internal development of a core business platform.Remaining hands-on with the existing application and codebase.Owning day-to-day technical direction and engineering priorities.Contributing to architectural and technical design decisions.Improving code quality, maintainability and scalability.Establishing effective coding, testing, documentation and release standards.Managing technical debt and helping prioritise engineering improvements.Working across APIs, integrations, databases and authentication.Reviewing technical designs and third-party development work.Supporting reliable deployment and production support processes.Working closely with Product, Operations, Finance and other business stakeholders.Coordinating with internal developers, contractors and external technology partners.Helping shape the future engineering team and supporting subsequent technical hires.Technology environmentThe current environment includes:C# / .NETREST APIsAzure Function AppsTypeScriptReact / AngularSQL ServerRelational data modellingODataWebhooksOAuth2 / OpenID ConnectJWTCloud-based integrations with third-party business applicationsYou do not necessarily need experience with every technology listed, but you should have a strong Microsoft development background and be comfortable working across an established production application.What we're looking forWe are looking for an experienced software engineer who combines strong development capability with good technical judgement.You will ideally have:Strong commercial experience developing applications using C# and .NET.Experience working on production business systems.Experience taking technical ownership of an application, product or platform.Strong experience with APIs and systems integration.Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.Experience working within Azure environments.Understanding of automated testing, deployment and production support.Knowledge of application security, authentication and authorisation.Experience reviewing and improving existing codebases.An appreciation of scalability, maintainability and technical debt.The ability to balance delivery speed, technical quality, cost and risk.Experience mentoring developers or providing technical leadership.Confidence communicating technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.Experience within professional services, financial systems, SaaS or another regulated environment would be advantageous, but is not essential.
