The company is currently building the U.S. Coast Guard’s Arctic Security Cutters in Texas, offering team members the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical national security programs.Role Description The Lead Engineering Machinery Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in the Galveston area. This position is responsible for leading the design of mechanical and machinery systems for ship repair, fabrication, and new construction projects, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with maritime standards. Day-to-day tasks include developing and reviewing engineering designs, preparing and updating detailed construction drawings, and coordinating Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The role collaborates closely with project managers, production teams, and clients to translate specifications into practical, buildable solutions and to resolve design issues during construction. The Lead Engineering Machinery Designer also mentors junior designers, supports quality assurance activities, and contributes to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. Responsible for supporting the safe execution of machinery design activities in accordance with the company's overall safety goals, objectives and policies. Lead and coordinate machinery design activities for assigned shipbuilding and newbuilding projects. Develop, review, and correct machinery arrangements, equipment locations, piping layouts, and associated drawings. Coordinate machinery design requirements with hull, electrical, HVAC, deck, interior, naval architecture, and other engineering and design disciplines. Assist designers in resolving machinery technical issues, interdisciplinary conflicts, and production-related problems. Review machinery drawings and design deliverables for accuracy, completeness, accessibility, constructability, and compliance with applicable project requirements and standards. Coordinate machinery foundations, supports, piping, equipment, and associated outfitting with other disciplines. Support development and checking of production-ready machinery drawing packages prior to release to the shipyard. Coordinate engineering information required to support material takeoffs, procurement, fabrication, and installation. Review engineering changes and incorporate approved revisions into applicable design documentation. Participate in 3D model reviews, drawing reviews, and production reviews and assist in resolving identified conflicts. MUST HAVE AVEVA 3D Design experience.
