The platform connects users with unique services across cities, helping them discover, support, and buy from local businesses.No salary until Around secures investment.Role Description: The Full Stack Engineer role is based in New York City. The engineer will design, build, and maintain scalable web and mobile applications that power Around’s local shopping platform, working across both front-end and back-end components. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing user-facing features, developing and optimizing APIs and services, ensuring application performance and security, and collaborating with product and design teams to refine requirements. The role also involves participating in code reviews, writing tests, troubleshooting issues in production, and contributing to architectural decisions and technical documentation.QualificationsMust be based in NYCBachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science is a must but M.S. is preferredMust know React, React Native, JavaScript, TypeScript, Expo for frontendMust know Hono.js, Cloudflare, MySQL (schema design, query optimization), Payments, Payment gateway integration experience with StripeMust know REST API design, Git, CI/CD fundamentalsUser-Facing App (Frontend)Build and maintain the core web and iOS application using React Native with ExpoDeliver polished, performant UI/UX that feels native to the platformImplement new features, screens, and flows from design through production releaseBackend & IntegrationDesign, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Hono.js on CloudflareOwn the full integration layer between the backend and the React Native frontendManage the MySQL database layer, schema design, query optimization, and migrationsIntegrate and maintain payment systems within the app (processing, webhooks, error handling)Supporting Portals & ToolingBuild and improve the Merchant Portal, the internal-facing web app merchants use to manage their presence on AroundDevelop statistics and analytics dashboards for internal and merchant useEnsure seamless data flow between the app, merchant portal, and backend systemsNice to HaveCurrent student or recent graduate from Columbia UniversityFamiliarity with the Cloudflare ecosystemExperience with analytics/data visualization librariesUnderstanding of mobile performance profiling and optimization
