Lead Teacher – Sherith Israel PreschoolSherith Israel Preschool is seeking a passionate, experienced, and reflective Early Childhood Lead Teacher to join our collaborative team.Our preschool serves children ages 2–5 in a play-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired program rooted in Jewish values. We believe children are capable, curious learners and are looking for an educator who creates meaningful, engaging learning experiences while building strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues.As the Lead Teacher, you will guide a classroom of 3- to 4-year-olds, fostering curiosity, creativity, independence, and a strong sense of belonging in a warm, inclusive environment with low teacher-to-child ratios.Our VisionWe think of our preschoolers as stewards of the planet and citizens of our city.Position DetailsHours: Up to 37.5 hours/weekCompensation: $30–$35/hour, based on education, ECE units, and experienceKey Responsibilities:Inspire Learning Through PlayPlan, implement, and document developmentally appropriate, inquiry-based curriculum and learning experiences.Create engaging learning environments that reflect children's interests, curiosity, and developmental needs.Observe and document children's growth to guide curriculum planning and communicate learning with families.Actively engage with children during play rather than supervising from a distance.Create a Nurturing Classroom CommunityBuild warm, trusting relationships with children and foster an inclusive, respectful, anti-bias classroom community.Support children's social-emotional development by modeling kindness, empathy, and respectful communication.Guide children in developing friendships, solving problems, and navigating conflicts using positive guidance strategies.Partner with FamiliesBuild strong, respectful relationships with families.Communicate regularly through daily interactions, documentation, and parent conferences.Collaborate with families and outside professionals to support each child's growth and development.Collaborate as a TeamCollaborate with teaching team members and the Director.Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.Maintain required records and follow health, safety, and confidentiality procedures.Share housekeeping responsibilities and support aftercare and other school needs as assigned.Maintain the Classroom EnvironmentCreate and maintain organized, intentional indoor and outdoor learning environments.Prepare materials and assist with classroom setup, daily cleanup, and ongoing organization.Ensure the classroom is welcoming, safe, and inviting for all members of the classroom community.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.Minimum of 12 ECE units.CPR/First Aid certification.Mandated Reporter certification.Knowledge of Jewish values and traditions—or a willingness to learn.Knowledge of Conscious Discipline is a plus.BenefitsMedical and dental insurance.Paid vacation and sick leave.403(b) retirement plan.Physical RequirementsLift up to 50 pounds.Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.Frequently squat, kneel, bend, and move quickly to safely supervise young children.Participate in neighborhood walks and field trips, including outings that may involve walking up to 2 miles round trip and last up to 2 hours.To ApplyWe welcome educators who are passionate about creating joyful, meaningful learning experiences for young children to apply.
