You will work within a small multidisciplinary team of data engineers, actuaries and data scientists across Capital & Risk, translating advanced analytics and complex concepts into robust, scalable software.This is a senior contributor role with technical leadership responsibility. As an early software engineer working on OCEAN, you will play a key role in shaping the architecture, implementation patterns and engineering standards across it.What You’ll Build:Full-stack applications across OAK’s Capital Exposure and Analytics Network, spanning React/TypeScript products, Python services, and internal analytical toolingUser-facing interfaces and analytical applications for proprietary pricing, exposure, reconciliation, and portfolio workflowsBackend services, APIs, and workflow components integrating internal tools, analytical models, data stores, and selected external platformsProduction-grade internal tools and model-driven applications with improved reliability, usability, maintainability, and operational readinessKey ResponsibilitiesApplication & Platform DevelopmentPlay a central role in the design and development of software applications and platform capabilities across OCEANLead end-to-end delivery of full-stack applications, from frontend user experience through to backend services, APIs and cloud deploymentBuild both React/TypeScript applications and Python-based internal analytical applications, including Streamlit tools used by Capital & Risk, Underwriting and Finance & Operations teamsDevelop Python services, serverless APIs and workflow components across Lambda, Step Functions, S3 and DynamoDB, and productionise pricing and analytics tools into maintainable softwareDesign and implement REST APIs and service interfaces enabling interoperability across internal tools, models and external platformsRefactor pricing models and other applications into production-grade software within OCEANDesign application architectures that enable long-term integration with AIEngineering Quality & Production ReadinessTranslate complex requirements into high-quality softwareHarden proprietary tooling and internal applications to improve reliability, resilience, security and operational readinessWork closely with the Head of Engineering to establish and uphold best-practice engineering and technical standards including testing, CI/CD, observability, code quality and infrastructure-as-codeTechnical LeadershipProvide technical leadership through architecture decisions, engineering judgement, implementation quality and hands-on deliveryFoundational platform capabilities that support future AI-augmented workflows and intelligent tooling across OCEANExperience/RequirementsLead software engineering experience (Lead/Staff Software Engineer or similar)Experience delivering full-stack production-grade applications in AWS spanning frontend, backend and cloud infrastructureExperience designing application architectures and integrating multiple internal and external systems through APIs and servicesBSc/MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.Technical Skills:Programming Python and TypeScriptFamiliarity with libraries such as: Polars, DuckDB, Plotly, Pydantic, boto3 / PynamoDBOpenAPI-generated clientsFrontend ReactStreamlitBackend and APIs Python service developmentREST API design and implementationServerless and event-driven application patternsCloud and Infrastructure Familiarity with AWS services including: Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, S3 DynamoDB, ECS/Fargate and Application Load Balancer (ALB)CI/CD pipelinesTerraform/Terraform CodeSoftware Engineering Git / GitHubFamiliarity with automated testing using: pytest / unittest, Vitest, Playwright, snapshot / regression testing, and CI-driven workflow/infrastructure validationObservability, reliability, maintainability, and secure scalable engineering practicesStrong practical use of AI coding tools such as Codex and Claude Code, with sound judgement around quality, review and production readinessWhy join Oak Global?
