Lead Software Engineer

Our Client, prominent private foundation dedicated to advancing fundamental research across mathematics, the physical sciences, and computational biology, is looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join their NYC based team on full time basis.This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role responsible for owning technical direction and execution, mentoring a small team of software engineers, and collaborating closely with computational biologists and researchers to translate cutting-edge science into robust, production-grade software tools.ResponsibilitiesServe as technical lead for the platform, guiding architecture, feature development, and major infrastructure upgradesLead and mentor a team of full stack software engineers across code quality, workflows, and professional developmentDesign, develop, and optimize scalable genomics data processing pipelinesIntegrate machine learning methods into production pipelines for heterogeneous biological datasetsEstablish and enforce engineering best practices: coding standards, version control, documentation, testing, and CI/CDCollaborate cross-functionally with computational biologists, data scientists, and external partnersEvaluate emerging technologies in cloud infrastructure, bioinformatics, and scientific computingMinimum QualificationsB.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including team leadership and hands-on involvement in planning, design, and developmentProficiency in full stack developmentExtensive Python experience, including data pipelines and software librariesDemonstrated experience across the full SDLC: testing, CI/CD, version control, deploymentExperience building and maintaining web-based applicationsBackground in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related fieldExperience working with large, heterogeneous biological datasets, ideally in genomics or biomedical contextsStrong cross-functional communication skills and ability to work across technical and scientific disciplines
