Lead Telecommunications Engineer

About the opportunityDelivering dependable telecom infrastructure requires more than technical expertise. It takes strong leadership from the first design review through final system handover. Chessboard is seeking a Lead Telecom Engineer to oversee telecom installation, integration, testing, and commissioning on an engineering project in Saudi Arabia. You will guide site teams, coordinate contractors and technical stakeholders, and help ensure that communications systems are delivered safely, to specification, and ready for operation. This is a 12-month assignment at a remote project site, suited to someone who combines hands-on problem-solving with confident project leadership.Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of telecom systems.
• Manage fiber-optic infrastructure, structured cabling, telephone, data and communication systems.
• Review technical drawings, project specifications, material take-offs (MTOs) and technical submittals.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, IT, Network and Testing & Commissioning teams to align work scopes and technical interfaces.
• Supervise telecom installation activities and ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
• Monitor testing, commissioning, system integration, and telecom system performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve telecom technical issues and communication-system faults.
• Coordinate technical matters with the client, consultant and equipment or system vendors.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, test reports and as-built drawings.
• Lead the telecom team, monitor delivery priorities and ensure timely completion of telecom works.What we’re looking for
• Degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 8+ years of relevant telecom engineering experience, including 3+ years leading telecom site execution, project delivery, or engineering teams (preferred experience benchmark).
• Proven experience delivering fiber-optic, structured cabling, and telecom systems on construction or industrial projects.
• Ability to lead site execution, review technical documentation, and manage testing/commissioning activities.
• Strong stakeholder coordination, technical troubleshooting, and team leadership skills.Project conditionsThis is a 12-month, site-based assignment at a remote location in Saudi Arabia.
