Commercial and Product CounselAbout this roleWe are looking for a Commercial and Product Counsel with 5-8 years of experience to join as the second major legal hire at an AI-native law firm that's redefining how startups receive legal support. This is a high-impact role where your work will directly shape the company's trajectory, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts for clients, building scalable legal playbooks, and partnering with product and engineering to improve AI-assisted legal workflows.What will you be doing?Reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts for late-stage startup clients (Series A to Series B, B2B SaaS companies)Advising clients on product, privacy, and corporate matters as an extension of their in-house legal teamBuilding and codifying review playbooks and quality standards that the rest of the team ramps againstPartnering closely with product and engineering to make the AI-powered legal platform faster and more accurateWorking at a high pace (Mon-Fri 9am-8pm, Sat 11am-5pm) in a tight-knit, early-stage team environmentKey RequirementsJ.D. and active California bar membership in good standing5-8 years of legal experience with significant commercial/transactional work supporting technology companiesIn-house counsel experience required (ideally as sole counsel or first legal hire at a startup)Willingness to work 6 days a week in-office in San Francisco at a high-intensity pace (11-5 on Saturday)Strong communication skills and comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous, high-ownership environmentRole responsibilitiesReview and negotiate commercial contracts; advise on product and privacy mattersPartner closely with legal and product teamsInterpret contract terms and surface key obligations, risks, and anomaliesOperate internal tooling to streamline reviewSpot inefficiencies and patterns in the review processStandardize and codify recurring contract types, review playbooks, and quality barsProtect turnaround and SLA commitmentsPartner with operations to evolve legal services deliveryRole detailsSalary: $150K - $210KOn-site work policy: 6 days in-office in Union Square, San Francisco (Mon-Fri 9am-8pm, Sat 11am-5pm)Employment type: Full-timeLocation: Union Square, San Francisco, CAEquity: 0.1% - 0.3%Visa sponsorship: Not open to any visas (e.g. US citizen, Green Card holders)Hiring count: Looking to hire 1 candidate for this roleTech stack: AI-assisted legal workflows
