Your roleWe may be part of a large banking Group, but we’re a small, tight-knit bank with a focused business model and a young team. For the Legal & Compliance department, we are looking for a Legal Counsel.Reporting to Team Lead – Legal & Compliance NL, this role combines responsibilities in legal advisory. The successful candidate will ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements and provide guidance on a wide range of legal topics within a highly regulated environment, in line with the Group Risk Management Framework, Group Policy Framework, and local Dutch law and regulations. Here’s what a typical day might look like:Start the Day with PurposeYou begin your morning reviewing legal updates and regulatory developments from the AFM, DNB, and ECB. A quick check of your inbox reveals a few contract review requests and a meeting invite for a new product launch.Legal Advisory in ActionYou join a call with the Product and Risk teams to assess the legal implications of a new mortgage feature. You provide clear, practical advice on how to align with Dutch and EU regulations while supporting innovation.Contracts & CollaborationYou review and negotiate a supplier agreement, ensuring it meets internal standards and regulatory expectations. You liaise with external counsel for a second opinion on a complex clause.Lunch & Knowledge SharingOver lunch, you catch up with colleagues and join a short internal session on recent regulatory trends. It’s a great way to stay connected and continuously learn.Policy & ProcessYou work on translating a new Group Policy into a local procedure, collaborating with Compliance and Operations to ensure its practical and effectiveStakeholder EngagementYou prepare a briefing for senior management on a regulatory change and its impact on the business. Later, you join a cross-functional project meeting to ensure legal risks are identified early and managed proactively.Wrap-Up & ReflectYou finalize a legal memo, update your task list, and reflect on the day’s progress. If you’re up for the challenge, keep reading and see what a day in this role could look like for you.Your AccountabilitiesLegal Advisory: You will be responsible for providing legal advice and support regarding banking activities to business departments on a wide range of legal topics.Contract Review and Negotiation: Lead drafting, review and negotiation across banking activities in NL, providing legal advice, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving robust contract governance aligned with internal policies and risk appetite.Regulatory landscape: Monitor case law, legislative and regulatory changes, translating them into actionable guidance for the business.Legal risk: Provide legal advice to the business to ensure legal risks are identified and mitigated, and that legal risk is managed accordingly.Stakeholder Management: You will represent the Legal & Compliance Department in cross-functional projects, internal forums, and with external stakeholders.You recognize yourself in this profileRequired Knowledge and Experience5+ years of relevant experience at a reputational law firm, bank or a financial institution, with a focus on banking & finance.Strong knowledge of European & Dutch financial law and regulatory landscape.Experience in negotiating and drafting contracts, and terms & conditions with stakeholders and suppliers.Experience within the banking or broader financial sector is a plus.Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.Some highlights of our benefits for you!At Lloyds Bank The Netherlands, we value balance, flexibility, and your long‑term wellbeing.
