Legal Counsel, Legal & Compliance Team

Location: LondonThe CompanyOur client is a growing international sports technology and data business operating across three main areas:Sports Data, Video and Odds: Providing specialist data, video and live odds solutions to sports organisations and leading betting operators globally.Team Performance: Providing player intelligence, opposition analysis and performance insights to professional sports teams.Sports Marketing: Developing commercial opportunities with sports rights holders and partners.The wider group develops and supplies B2B technology and market infrastructure solutions to licensed betting operators, gaming businesses and other regulated organisations worldwide.As the business continues to expand into new markets and develop its technology, data and commercial offering, it is looking to appoint its third lawyer.The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the business across commercial contracting, technology, data, intellectual property and wider legal matters, working closely with teams across the organisation.The RoleThe Legal Counsel will support the business across its commercial and wider legal requirements, with a particular focus on contracts relating to the company's data, technology and market infrastructure products.The role will provide exposure to commercial contracting, official data rights and intellectual property, technology and data protection law, as well as regulatory legal matters across multiple jurisdictions.The position sits within the Legal & Compliance team, based in London, and reports to the Head of Legal.

It is a hands-on role, working closely with the Commercial, Product, Technology and Finance teams and providing practical legal advice to support the continued growth of the business.Commercial Contracts & Vendor AgreementsSupport the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements through which the company supplies data, technology and market infrastructure to customers, as well as agreements with suppliers and technology partners.Official Data Rights & Intellectual PropertySupport the business in protecting and commercialising its data rights and proprietary technology.RegulatorySupport the legal analysis required for the business to operate and expand across regulated markets.Data Protection & TechnologySupport the business on the legal aspects of data protection and technology.Disputes, Risk & Corporate MattersAssist with managing legal risk, contentious matters and wider corporate legal requirements across the group.Experience & QualificationsEssential:Qualified solicitor in England & Wales, or in another common law jurisdiction with equivalent experience.2–4 years PQE, gained in private practice and/or in-house.Experience drafting and negotiating commercial, technology, data or software licensing agreements.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and commercially focused legal advice.Ability to manage multiple matters and work effectively with stakeholders across a growing international business.A commercially minded approach, with the confidence to identify and communicate legal and commercial risks.Desirable:Experience working within a technology, data, software, financial services or other regulated business.Experience in betting, gaming, gambling, sports data or sports rights.Experience working across multiple jurisdictions.Exposure to intellectual property, data protection and/or regulatory matters.Previous in-house experience.Why Join?This is an opportunity to join a growing international sports technology and data business at an interesting stage of its development.The successful candidate will have broad exposure across commercial, technology, data, intellectual property and regulatory matters, working closely with senior stakeholders and gaining significant responsibility as the legal function continues to develop.
