The Centre runs two core workstreams: the Enterprise Growth Lab (EGL), which delivers actionable intelligence for MSMEs, and India 2047, an industry-led roadmap for India's economic reform through policy and regulation.The Centre is chaired by Mr. Amitabh Kant — former CEO of NITI Aayog (2016–2022), former Secretary of the Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion (2014–2016), and India's Ex-G20 Sherpa, known for driving national initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India, and the Aspirational Districts Program. It is led day-to-day by a small bench of senior practitioners, including Ranveer Nagaich (Managing Director), Prateek Goyal (Director, Enterprise Growth Lab), and Diewakarr Anupam Mittal (Director, Partnerships).About the RoleWe are looking for a Legal Researcher to support the Centre's policy work on the regulatory and legislative dimensions of India's enterprise ecosystem — feeding directly into the India 2047 reform agenda and the Enterprise Growth Lab's MSME-focused work. The role sits at the intersection of law and public policy: analysing regulation, tracking legislative change, and translating legal complexity into clear, actionable recommendations.Key Responsibilities• Conduct legal and regulatory research across areas such as banking and finance law, industrial/land regulation, customs and trade law, and MSME-related statutes• Track legislative and regulatory developments — Budget announcements, RBI/SEBI circulars, ministry notifications, court rulings — relevant to ease of doing business• Draft policy notes, comparative legal analyses, and briefing memos for the Chairperson and senior leadership• Support drafting of model laws, comments on draft bills/regulations, and submissions to government consultations• Coordinate with external legal counsel, academic partners, and industry legal teams as needed• Contribute to the Centre's published research — issue briefs, expert commentary, and long-form policy workWho We're Looking For• Law degree from a top-tier institution (National Law Universities or equivalent)• 3–4 years of relevant experience — law firm, litigation, legal-policy think tank, regulatory affairs, or in-house legal/compliance• Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills across corporate, regulatory, and public law• Interest in economic policy and public law reform, beyond conventional legal practice• Ability to distil complex legal/regulatory issues for non-legal audiences, including policymakers and industry leadersHow to ApplyPlease send your CV and a short cover note explaining your interest to contact@free-enterprise.org, with the position title in the subject line.
