Tailor my CV for this job — freeLicensed Clinical Social Worker/Case Management Lead (Part time)Organization: Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project (RMVAP), Denver, COStatus: Part timeSalary: $25.00-$35.00/hour - based on experience and qualificationsCompany Description The Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project (RMVAP) provides comprehensive legal support to veterans navigating complex benefits and discharge issues. We represent veterans in appeals before the VA Regional Office and the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, assist with initial benefits claims in select cases, and advocate for veterans before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Our team also guides and represents veterans seeking discharge upgrades and coordinates referrals for legal matters outside VA benefits and discharge upgrades. Through our SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Program, we’re expanding that work to reach veterans at risk of suicide. Funded by the VA and named for Army Staff Sgt. Parker Gordon Fox, the program supports community organizations in identifying veterans at risk and connecting them to the care, legal help, and support they need. Because legal, financial, and housing problems are often what push a veteran toward crisis, RMVAP pairs legal advocacy with case management so veterans get help with both the problem and the weight it carries.Role Description The LCSW anchors case management for RMVAP's SSG Fox suicide prevention program. This person builds each participant's individualized service plan, leads the response when screening shows elevated risk, and makes sure every participant gets a warm, tracked hand-off to the clinical, legal, and social services that address their risk. The LCSW leads the case management team and works closely with RMVAP attorneys and the program's intake and triage lead. Under the grant this is a non-clinical role: the LCSW uses clinical judgment for assessment, safety planning, and referral, but does not provide psychotherapy or other treatment, which is furnished by referral.Essential dutiesService planning: Review intake and screening results and develop an individualized service plan for each participant, combining case management, suicide-risk-linked legal services, benefits linkage, peer support, and the family or perinatal track as needed.Risk assessment and safety planning: Administer and interpret the C-SSRS and SCS-SF. Lead collaborative safety planning (Stanley-Brown Safety Planning Intervention) and lethal-means safety counseling for participants at elevated risk. Apply the program's risk-stratification and escalation protocol, including emergency care under 38 CFR 78.60.Case management leadership: Carry a direct caseload and oversee the team caseload (roughly 40–60 active participants per case manager). Assign cases, set contact frequency by risk level, and make sure higher-risk participants receive more frequent contact and safety follow-up.Warm referral and care coordination: Coordinate tracked, two-way referrals to the Sturm Center, VA (Suicide Prevention Coordinators, CRRCs, Vet Centers), Community Care, Veterans Treatment Courts, and Tribal health partners. Work toward the program target of referring at least 75% of participants to VA.Supervision: Serve as field instructor for social work field-placement students, subject to the school's field education requirements. Review documentation for quality and protocol fidelity.Interdisciplinary teamwork: Co-lead the weekly triage and case-review huddle with the intake and triage lead. Consult with attorneys on how legal matters (discharge upgrades, VA benefits, family, housing) bear on each participant's risk and plan.Screening and outcome data: Ensure the full battery is completed on schedule (within 14 days of intake, at 90 days, at exit, and at 6 months for elevated-risk participants). Make sure data are accurate in Casebook and ready for the VA Data Collection Tool.Training and outreach: Help deliver staff onboarding and gatekeeper and lethal-means safety trainings for Veterans, families, and community partners. Staff clinics and outreach events across the catchment.Program development: Help refine the service-plan and safety protocols, the program manual, and quality-improvement processes with the Director of Veteran Suicide Prevention, Research, and Evaluation.Minimum qualificationsMaster of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited programCurrent, unrestricted LCSW license in Colorado, or eligibility to obtain one within 90 days of hire2 years of post-MSW experience in behavioral health, case management, or crisis servicesDemonstrated experience with suicide-risk assessment and safety planningValid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel regionally, including occasional overnight tripsAbility to pass a background checkPreferred qualificationsExperience working with Veterans, service members, or military families, including VA or Vet Center experienceTraining in C-SSRS, Safety Planning Intervention, CALM (Counseling on Access to Lethal Means), or similarSupervisory experience, or eligibility to serve as an MSW field instructorLicensure, or eligibility, in Wyoming or New Mexico to support participants across the catchmentExperience with perinatal populations, rural or Tribal communities, justice-involved individuals, or co-occurring substance useVeteran or military family memberCore competenciesSound clinical judgment in assessing and responding to suicide riskClear understanding of the boundary between non-clinical case management and treatmentTrauma-informed, culturally responsive practice, including military cultural competenceLeadership and supervision of a small teamStrong collaboration with attorneys, clinicians, and community partnersAccurate, timely documentation and comfort with outcome dataRequired training (within the first 30 days)Program protocols for screening, safety, and service planning; C-SSRS and SCS-SF competency check; lethal-means safety; trauma-informed practice; military cultural competence; Casebook and VA data procedures; consent, confidentiality, and attorney-client privilege in a legal-services setting.
