Location: Greater Boston Area Compensation: $120,000 – $165,000/year (Depending on previous experience)Relocation: Assistance Available for Qualified CandidatesTravel/Schedule: Local client sites with minimal overtime requiredAbout the RoleWe are seeking a Life Science Engineer III/Field Service Engineer – Chromatography Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep multi-vendor Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) expertise to architect, launch, and lead a brand-new service program across key pharmaceutical and biotech client sites in the Greater Boston area.In this high-visibility role, you won't just perform field service—you will act as the Technical Architect of our core LCMS service offering.

Serving as the ultimate escalation point, you will establish operational models, draft SOPs, optimize parts inventory strategies, build client relationships at major account sites, and mentor field service teams.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Architecture & Account Leadership (Primary Focus)Build the Practice: Design and standardize the entire LCMS service capability from the ground up, including maintenance workflows, platform coverage strategies, and service models.Site Leadership & Operations: Serve as Site Lead or Technical Authority for major accounts; draft SOPs, IQ/OQ compliance procedures, and parts inventory/ordering efficiency strategies.Client & BD Engagement: Partner with sales and account managers as the primary technical SME during client presentations and capabilities demonstrations to tier-one pharma/biotech leaders.Advanced Multi-Vendor Execution & EscalationHighest Technical Authority: Act as the final escalation point for complex diagnostics, break/fix repair, preventive maintenance, and system qualifications on high-end analytical equipment.Multi-Vendor Expertise: Perform hands-on service across top OEM platforms (SCIEX, Agilent, Waters, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Shimadzu) covering Triple Quads, Single Quads, HPLC/UPLC, and related instrumentation.Mentorship & Capability GrowthTeam Development: Train, mentor, and conduct ride-alongs with junior field engineers; lead technical user groups and monthly knowledge-sharing sessions.Training Alignment: Build standardized learning pathways and customer training seminars for LCMS and chromatography systems.Required QualificationsMUST HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AS A FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER (FSE) AND/OR A SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT (SME).Education: Completed Bachelor’s OR Master’s Degree in Engineering Management, Biomedical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Biochemistry, or Chemistry.Experience: 7+ years of hands-on field service, advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of life science/analytical equipment (LCMS, HPLC/UPLC, GC, Mass Spectrometry).OEM Background: Direct past employment or dedicated embedded service experience with major instrument OEMs (e.g., Agilent CrossLab, PerkinElmer OneSource, Waters, SCIEX).Multi-Vendor Mastery: Demonstrated expertise servicing instruments across at least two major OEMs (e.g., SCIEX, Agilent, Waters, Thermo Fisher) and familiarity with core control software (e.g., Empower, MassLynx, Analyst, OpenLab/ChemStation).GxP / Pharma Environment: 3+ years working in regulated GxP / GMP / GLP environments with direct experience performing Operational and Installation Qualifications (IQ/OQ).Leadership & Program Ops: Proven background leading client site operations, drafting SOPs, managing parts inventories, or serving as a senior technical escalation point.Autonomy & Communication: Exceptional communication skills with client stakeholders, facility directors, and corporate management.
