MSTI focuses on building professionalism, skill, and knowledge to prepare students for successful and rewarding maritime careers, giving them a competitive edge in the industry.Role Description The Lifeguard is a full-time, on-site role located at MSTI Maritime Academy in Southern Province, Sri Lanka. The Lifeguard will monitor swimming areas and training pools, maintain constant vigilance over trainees and staff, and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including performing water rescues and providing first aid and CPR as needed. Responsibilities include enforcing safety rules and academy protocols, conducting regular checks of lifesaving equipment, and ensuring that facilities such as pools, decks, and surrounding areas are clean and hazard-free. The Lifeguard will also participate in safety briefings, support maritime safety training sessions, and collaborate with instructors to promote a culture of safety and risk awareness throughout the academy.Qualifications Strong swimming proficiency and demonstrated water safety skills, including the ability to perform rescues in various conditions.Valid lifeguard certification from a recognized authority, with current first aid and CPR certification.Knowledge of emergency response procedures and experience in monitoring high-risk environments such as pools or training facilities.Clear communication skills to give instructions, enforce safety rules, and coordinate with instructors and trainees.High level of attention to detail, situational awareness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.Physical fitness sufficient for sustained vigilance, rapid response, and manual handling during rescue operations.Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse training environment and maintain a professional, respectful approach to all trainees and staff.Prior experience as a lifeguard, safety officer, or in maritime or aquatic training environments is an advantage.
