Role Description The Litigation Secretary is a full-time, on-site role based in Chicago, IL. This role supports attorneys by preparing and formatting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence, in accordance with court rules and firm standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include case management, managing calendars and deadlines, coordinating court filings, and organizing hearings, depositions, and meetings. The Litigation Secretary communicates with courts, clients, and opposing counsel as directed, and assists with billing, time entry, and administrative tasks related to ongoing matters. The role requires consistent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment.QualificationsKnowledge of law and civil litigation processes, with experience supporting trial attorneys or working in a litigation-focused environment.Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, proofreading, and filing pleadings, motions, and discovery materials.Experience working as a legal assistant or litigation secretary, providing administrative and case management support to attorneys.Strong calendaring skills, including managing court deadlines, hearings, depositions, and other litigation-related events.Familiarity with courts and court procedures, including e-filing systems, local rules, and document submission requirements.Advanced proficiency with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, PDF tools).Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff.3-5 years prior experience in a law firm is preferred.
