The company designs and manufactures customized robots, including AGVs (Autonomous Guided Vehicles) and AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots), capable of operating across multiple terrains with heavy load capacities. In the context of Industry 4.0, UMA addresses gaps in logistics automation, especially in outdoor areas such as mining, construction, agriculture, and factory exteriors. The team is also developing last-mile delivery solutions to complete the logistics chain and support industrial growth. UMA Robotic Technology offers opportunities to work on real-world robotics challenges that directly impact operational efficiency and scalability.Role Description The Machine Learning and Computer Vision Engineer will work full time on-site in Haridwar, contributing to the development of perception and intelligence systems for UMA’s autonomous robots. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and implementing computer vision algorithms for object detection, tracking, and scene understanding across varied indoor and outdoor environments. The role involves building and optimizing machine learning and pattern recognition models, integrating them with robotic platforms, and collaborating with hardware and software teams to ensure robust real-time performance. The engineer will collect, preprocess, and analyze sensor data, run experiments, evaluate models, and iterate on system designs to improve navigation, safety, and autonomy. Additional tasks include documenting technical work, participating in code reviews, and supporting deployment, testing, and maintenance of solutions in industrial settings.QualificationsStrong foundation in Computer Science and Data Science, including algorithms, data structures, statistics, and model evaluation.Proficiency in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, with experience in image processing, feature extraction, and classification/detection models.Hands-on experience in Robotics, including robot perception, control integration, and working with autonomous mobile platforms or similar systems.Practical skills in machine learning frameworks and programming languages such as Python, C++/C, and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, ROS, or similar tools.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Ability to design, test, and optimize real-time systems for challenging environments, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Comfort working on-site in industrial settings, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and communicating clearly in written and spoken English.Experience with embedded systems, sensor fusion (e.g., LiDAR, cameras, IMU, GPS), and deployment of ML models on edge devices is a plus.
