Machine Learning Research Scientist Can we build robots that learn and generalise, rather than simply repeat what they've been trained to do?I'm working with an early-stage UK robotics company tackling some of the hardest open problems in robot intelligence and embodied AI.They're looking for a Machine Learning Research Scientist to develop new approaches to how robots learn, reason and adapt in complex, unpredictable environments. The research spans Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, world models, representation learning and robot learning, with a focus on moving beyond narrow, task-specific capabilities. Why it's interesting:Research and develop novel VLA architectures and world modelsExplore representation learning, generalisation and transfer across tasks and environmentsDesign and run large-scale learning experimentsPursue new research directions, from first principles through to implementationValidate research on real robotic systems, not just simulated environments or offline benchmarksHelp shape the research agenda and technical direction from an early stageWho this could suit:Researchers with strong foundations in deep learning and representation learning, particularly those working across robot learning, embodied AI, world models or multimodal learning. You'll join early enough to have meaningful influence over the research being pursued, alongside early-stage equity.
