This setting offers marine professionals the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging offshore and shipyard assignments.Role Description The Marine Shaft Machinist role is a full-time, on-site position based in Abu Dhabi. The Marine Shaft Machinist is responsible for machining, repairing, and aligning marine propulsion shafts and related components using lathes, milling machines, and precision measuring tools. Daily tasks include reading engineering drawings, setting up machines, performing shaft turning, boring, keyway cutting, and polishing, as well as conducting final inspections to confirm dimensional accuracy and tolerances. The role involves close coordination with engineering, quality control, and ship repair teams to plan work, solve technical issues, and ensure compliance with safety and marine industry standards. The Marine Shaft Machinist also supports on-board shaft work, assists with installation and removal of shafts and couplings, and maintains tools and equipment in proper working condition.QualificationsProven experience as a Marine Shaft Machinist, Marine Machinist, or similar role within a shipyard, dry dock, marine workshop, or ship repair environment.Strong hands-on experience in machining, repairing, and inspecting marine propeller shafts, tail shafts, intermediate shafts, couplings, bearings, bushes, and related components.Extensive experience operating conventional heavy-duty lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and other workshop machinery.Proficient in using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, dial indicators, Vernier calipers, bore gauges, and other inspection tools.Ability to independently perform shaft setup, centering, turning, facing, boring, threading, taper machining, and dimensional inspection.Strong knowledge of shaft runout, straightness, concentricity, alignment, tolerances, clearances, and fits.Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings, machining specifications, tolerances, and repair instructions.Practical knowledge of marine shaft repair procedures, including machining after metal build-up, welding, or other approved repair processes.Good understanding of marine propulsion and shafting systems, including shafts, couplings, bearings, seals, bushes, and propeller connections.Ability to inspect components, identify machining requirements, and complete work to the required dimensions and tolerances.Strong commitment to HSE requirements, safe machining practices, and shipyard safety procedures.Ability to work independently as well as supervise, guide, and train junior machinists when required.Willingness to work onboard vessels, in confined spaces, overtime, night shifts, weekends, and emergency repair jobs when required.Technical diploma, ITI, vocational qualification, or equivalent certification in Machining, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field is preferred.Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural marine/shipyard environment.
