Maintenance Engineer

The OpportunityMonday - Friday 6am - 3pmMy client based in West Sussex are looking for a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their team and play a key role in keeping our manufacturing operation running safely, efficiently and reliably.Working closely with Production, Technical and other departments, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and improving a wide range of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment. You’ll respond to breakdowns, carry out planned maintenance, support new equipment installations and help identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and overall plant performance.This is a hands-on role where your ability to diagnose problems, find effective solutions and prevent issues from recurring will have a direct impact on the operation.Key ResponsibilitiesCarry out routine inspections, servicing, repairs and planned preventative maintenance across site machinery and equipment.Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose faults and restore machinery to safe and effective working order.Use structured fault-finding techniques to identify the underlying causes of failures and introduce sustainable solutions.Assist with the design, development and delivery of preventative maintenance programmes to improve equipment reliability and extend asset life.Support the installation, commissioning and testing of new machinery, equipment and upgrades.Monitor machinery performance and equipment availability, using operational data to identify trends, recurring faults and opportunities for improvement.Review equipment failure information and develop appropriate corrective and preventative actions.Maintain accurate maintenance records, procedures and technical documentation, ensuring information remains current and compliant with relevant standards.Help manage stocks of engineering spares, components and maintenance materials, ensuring essential items are available when required.Contribute to continuous improvement projects, including the introduction of new maintenance techniques, technologies and working practices.Assess production processes, machine availability, cycle times, downtime and waste to identify ways of improving operational performance.Review workflow, equipment positioning and available workspace to support efficient manufacturing operations.Identify appropriate equipment and material specifications required for process and reliability improvements.Work with external suppliers and contractors to ensure parts, equipment and services meet the required standards and are delivered within agreed timescales.Maintain the site's buildings, structures and services where required to support the smooth running of the business.Ensure machinery and plant are operated in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and established company procedures.Work in accordance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and company policies.Support compliance across manufacturing operations, including BRC, EDS, environmental controls, waste management, emissions and hazardous material handling.Investigate equipment-related incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and putting appropriate corrective measures in place.Promote safe working practices and maintain high standards throughout the Maintenance function.Ensure good housekeeping across engineering areas, including the appropriate cleaning, storage and disposal of tools, equipment and materials.Track and report relevant maintenance KPIs, equipment uptime and plant efficiency.Contribute ideas and recommendations that improve machinery performance, reliability and energy/resource efficiency.Work collaboratively with Production, Technical and wider site teams to resolve issues and improve manufacturing performance.Participate in all mandatory and role-specific internal and external training and development activities.Carry out any other reasonable duties or responsibilities requested by management.BenefitsCompetitive salary, paid weekly25 days' annual leave + Bank HolidaysYour birthday off as an additional day's annual leaveAdditional holiday entitlement based on length of serviceAuto-enrolment pension with enhanced employer contributionsFull company inductionInternal training and development programmesSkills matrix linked to training, development and pay, dependent on business areaClear opportunities for internal career progressionMonthly employee reward and recognition scheme, with restaurant vouchers for nominated winnersPPE supplied and laundered where appropriateFree parking on the industrial estateOpportunity to take part in onsite product/taste testing panelsStaff facilities including microwave, toaster, fridge and a complimentary tea/coffee machineAccess to staff benefits and discounts, including support with solicitor-related expenses such as wills, house moves and other family mattersWhy Join?You’ll be joining a team where engineering has a genuine influence on the performance of the wider manufacturing operation.
