The company is committed to recycling, waste reduction, and meeting industry standards through relevant accreditations.Competitive salary (£44,000-£50,000 DOE), company pension, training opportunities and the chance to play a key role in a growing recycling operation.Role DescriptionWe are seeking a practical, mechanically biased Night Shift Maintenance Engineer to carry out planned and preventative maintenance activities during non-production hours. The role is focused on improving plant reliability, reducing downtime and ensuring equipment is fully available for daytime production operations.This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced fitter who enjoys working independently whilst supporting a wider maintenance team.Key ResponsibilitiesPlanned MaintenanceCarry out routine preventative maintenance activities on processing equipment.Complete scheduled maintenance tasks during night shift shutdown periods.Conduct inspections and condition monitoring of critical assets.Replace worn or damaged components before failure occurs.Mechanical MaintenanceMaintain conveyors, pulleys, bearings, rollers and drive systems.Repair and replace gearboxes, motors and transmission equipment.Carry out hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance activities.Complete alignment work and routine mechanical repairs.Fabrication and RepairsUndertake basic fabrication work.Carry out MIG welding repairs.Repair guards, frames, platforms, hoppers and plant structures.Fabricate simple modifications to improve reliability and maintainability.Support During BreakdownsAssist with repair activities where required.Identify root causes of recurring failures.Provide basic fault diagnosis on electrical and automation systems.Escalate complex electrical and PLC issues to the appropriate personnel.Housekeeping and SafetyFollow all safe isolation and lock-off procedures.Maintain engineering workshop standards.Ensure maintenance records are completed accurately.Work in accordance with company health, safety and environmental procedures.Essential Skills & ExperienceMechanicalStrong mechanical fitting experience.Bearings and housings.Gearboxes.Conveyor systems.Chains and sprockets.Hydraulic equipment.Pneumatic systems.Pumps and fans.Belt alignment and tracking.FabricationMIG welding.Basic fabrication.Use of engineering workshop equipment.Practical repair and modification skills.Fault FindingStrong mechanical fault-finding ability.Ability to diagnose basic electrical faults.Understanding of motors, sensors and drives.Ability to identify PLC-related faults for escalation.Health & SafetySafe isolation procedures.Lock Out / Tag Out.Risk assessment awareness.Working at height awareness.Desirable ExperienceCable granulation plants.Recycling industry.Waste processing operations.Shredders and material handling systems.Dust extraction systems.Conveyor-intensive manufacturing environments.Heavy industrial maintenance.
