Apply & track with Apply EdgeManager / Assistant Manager - Business AssuranceLocation: Mumbai / Bengaluru / NCR An overview of this Role: The Manager / Assistant Manager – Conflict Checks & Business Acceptance will be responsible for conducting conflict-of-interest reviews, managing new client and matter intake, and ensuring compliance with the firm's risk management and regulatory requirements. The role involves evaluating prospective clients and engagements, identifying legal, commercial, and independence conflicts, conducting KYC/AML due diligence, and supporting seamless client onboarding. Working closely with Partners, lawyers, and business services teams, the individual will facilitate timely engagement acceptance while upholding the highest standards of professional integrity and regulatory compliance. What you’ll do Conflict Checks & Business Acceptance • Conduct conflict-of-interest searches for new clients, matters, lateral hires, and business initiatives. • Analyse legal, commercial, and ethical conflicts by reviewing corporate structures, affiliates, UBOs, subsidiaries, and related entities. • Prepare conflict assessments, recommend resolutions, and escalate high-risk matters where required. • Coordinate with Partners, lawyers, and Risk & Compliance teams to resolve conflicts and implement ethical walls where necessary. Client Due Diligence & Compliance • Perform KYC, Client Due Diligence (CDD), AML, sanctions, and PEP screening in accordance with applicable regulations and firm policies. • Conduct Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk clients and regulated entities. • Ensure compliance with professional conduct standards, internal risk policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. Matter Management & Stakeholder Support • Review and approve new client and matter requests, ensuring accurate client data, engagement terms, and billing information. • Maintain client and matter records within the firm's practice management systems. • Partner with lawyers, Finance, Compliance, and Business Development teams to facilitate efficient client onboarding and meet service-level timelinesProcess Improvement • Support audits, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives. • Contribute to process enhancements, automation projects, and SOP development. • Mentor junior team members and promote best practices across the function. What you’ll bring • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline. • LL.B., B.A. LL.B., MBA, CA, or CS qualification will be an advantage. • Relevant experience in Conflict Checks, New Business Intake, Risk & Compliance, AML/KYC, or Client Acceptance within a law firm, consulting firm, Big Four, or professional services organisation. • 5 – 8 years of relevant experience including stakeholder management and process improvement. • Strong understanding of conflict-of-interest principles, AML/KYC, client due diligence, and risk management. • Ability to analyse complex corporate structures and identify legal, commercial, and regulatory risks. • Experience with conflict management and practice management systems (e.g., Intapp, Elite 3E, Aderant, iManage) and screening tools such as LexisNexis, World-Check, or equivalent. • Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
