Manager, IT Application Development-Transportation

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.This position is for full-time, onsite employment at the Family Dollar Chesapeake, VA Store Support Center.We handle relocation for anyone interested outside of the Hampton Roads, VA areaGeneral Summary:The Manager, IT Application Development, is responsible for the planning, delivery, and ongoing support of enterprise store technology solutions across Family Dollar’s retail footprint. This role leads internal team members and external development partners to deliver reliable, secure, and cost-effective applications that support critical store operations.The position serves as a central intake and delivery point for store systems initiatives, managing demand, priorities, estimates, vendor performance, and execution. The Manager partners closely with Information Technology, all other Support Center resources as needed and third-party vendors to ensure successful delivery, deployment, and continuous improvement of store systems at scale.Principal Duties & Responsibilities:Own intake, prioritization, and delivery of application development initiatives from requirements through deploymentLead and coordinate internal staff, consultants, systems integrators, and hardware/software vendorsProvide oversight and technical direction for application development, integrations, and deploymentsCurate scalable enterprise level solutions that are reliable and optimized for future growthManage multiple concurrent initiatives while identifying risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategiesOversee store technology deployments to ensure minimal operational impactManage budgets, forecasts, vendor contracts, and change ordersHold vendors accountable to delivery commitments, SLAs, and financial controlsDrive process improvement, delivery quality, and operational stabilityDevelop team members through coaching, performance management, and resource planningTravel: 10% or more for project-related events, conferences, and on-site meetings when requiredPosition Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, MIS, or a related field and 5+ years of relevant IT experienceOR 10+ years of equivalent progressive experienceExperience managing internal teams and external development vendorsExperience working with systems integrators, software vendors, and hardware providersStrong project and delivery management skills across complex initiativesExperience with retail hardware and services procurement, including contract negotiationProven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and vendor financial accountabilityStrong communication and stakeholder management skillsPreferred Technical BackgroundPreferred but not requiredFamiliarity with Oracle Transportation Management (OTM)Experience supporting business critical, highly integrated systemsExposure to Agile or hybrid delivery models and SDLC best practicesWorking knowledge of:o Sterling EDI Integrationo Service Oriented Architecture integration (SOA)o Overall Transportation Fleet management systemsYard ManagementRating ServicesInbound freight delivery systemsOutbound carrier delivery systemsRoute Management systems“Projected Salary Range: $123,000 - $153,500”.20% Bonus opportunity + other incentives Family Dollar is an equal opportunity employer and committed to recruiting, hiring, training, and promoting qualified people of all backgrounds, and makes all employment decisions without regard to any protected status.
