This role provides hands-on clinical and operational leadership to ensure high-quality, safe, compassionate patient care while maintaining staffing, regulatory, and organizational standards.The OR Manager will oversee approximately 80 FTEs, including nurses, surgical technicians, and other perioperative caregivers. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position requiring the manager to be present in the OR, actively round, work directly with staff, and support daily surgical operations. This is not a desk-only management position.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & OR OperationsOversee the daily operations of the Operating Room and perioperative servicesProvide hands-on leadership and remain actively engaged in the OR through rounding, room visits, and direct interaction with caregiversOversee a broad spectrum of surgical procedures, excluding traumaEnsure caregivers follow age-specific standards, hospital policies, procedures, and standards of careMonitor compliance with medication administration and treatment/procedure standardsEstablish and maintain clinical standards of practice to promote safe, high-quality patient careAddress patient, family, physician, and caregiver concerns in a timely and appropriate mannerAssist with the evaluation of department-specific equipment and ensure staff competency in equipment operationParticipate in Surgical Service Line growth opportunitiesShare oversight of the Sterile Processing Department with executive perioperative leadershipStaff Leadership & ManagementLead and manage approximately 80 FTEs, including nurses, surgical technicians, and other caregiversManage staff performance and maintain high standards of policies and proceduresEnsure efficient use of time and resources throughout the departmentQuality, Compliance & Patient SafetyEnsure compliance with State, Federal, Joint Commission, and hospital standardsParticipate in compliance audits and assist with the development and revision of audit toolsSupport survey readiness initiativesMonitor quality-control processes, including glucometer controls and code cart checksWork with Infection Control to identify department-specific infection prevention needs and educational opportunitiesMonitor staff compliance with infection-control standardsRecognize and report signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect across all patient populationsEstablish processes for reporting and documenting unusual patient or administrative occurrencesComplete required HRP reviews and documentationSupport the use of SBAR and other approved communication toolsParticipate in quality improvement activities and identify opportunities for assigned responsibilities accurately and within required timelinesRequired QualificationsActive/Valid Registered Nurse (RN) licenseBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) requiredPrevious Operating Room/OR Management experience requiredIdeally 5+ years of leadership experience within the Operating RoomCandidates with a combination of OR leadership and leadership experience in another clinical unit may be consideredStrong preference for candidates who have maintained a career focus within the OR/perioperative environmentStrong experience managing OR nurses, surgical technicians, and other perioperative staffExperience with staffing, scheduling, performance management, and daily OR operationsPreferred QualificationsNational nursing certification preferredMaster's degree preferredPrevious experience within a Magnet-recognized organization preferredExperience overseeing or working closely with Sterile ProcessingExperience with surgical service-line growth and operational planningIdeal CandidateThe ideal candidate is an experienced OR Nurse Manager who is comfortable being highly visible and hands-on in the operating room. They should have strong leadership and people-management skills, be comfortable managing a large team, and have the clinical credibility to work directly alongside OR caregivers.This role is best suited for someone who is actively engaged in the OR and enjoys rounding, interacting with staff, solving problems in real time, and managing day-to-day surgical operations — not someone looking for a primarily administrative or desk-based position.
