Managing Director — Studio and Theatre OperationsT. Schreiber Studio &Theatre | New York CityFull-time, on-site | $75K-80K annuallyT. Schreiber Studio, one of New York City’s longstanding (50 years!) professional acting studios and theatre, seeks a hands-on Managing Director to run the day-to-day operation of our studio and help grow enrollment.This is an on-site operating position rather than primarily an artistic leadership, fundraising, or senior arts-administration role.We are looking for someone who enjoys making a small organization work exceptionally well: managing classes and schedules, helping students, recruiting new students, help keep our theatre functioning well, handling financial administration, communicating through social media and email, and solving the many small problems that arise every day.We hope to find someone who will make T. Schreiber Studio their professional home and grow with us over the next several years.What You’ll DoRun the studio. Manage class schedules, registration, instructors, classrooms and enrollment. Make sure classes and the studio operate smoothly.Recruit and retain students. Take responsibility for helping fill classes. Follow up with prospective students, reconnect with former students, develop outreach and look for practical ways to increase enrollment.Work directly with students. Be a welcoming and accessible presence at the Studio. Answer questions, help prospective and current students select appropriate classes and resolve problems.Co-produce theatre productions. In conjunction with the Artistic Director (AD) and staff, help produce 3 in-house workshop productions (2 of which are AEA approved) and our annual AEA approved Schreiber Shorts at an outside venue, as well as occasional stage readings of new works and scene nights. Oversee a staff of 3 part-time employees. The staff has specific roles regarding enrollment, social media and theatre producing among other tasks in support of the MD.Handle financial administration. Maintain accurate bookkeeping and financial records, including tuition payments, accounts receivable, instructor payments and routine financial reporting. Work with the Treasurer on budgets and financial information.Manage communications and marketing. Help promote the Studio through email, social media, website updates and other outreach.Solve problems. When an instructor cancels, a class is under-enrolled, a scheduling conflict develops, a tech issue with the theatre, or a student has a problem, you take responsibility for finding a solution.Who We’re Looking ForWe are looking for an organized, energetic and personable coordinator who likes being close to the daily workings of an organization.You may currently be an operations manager, program manager, school administrator, registrar, studio manager, general manager or associate director who is ready to take responsibility for an entire operation.Strong candidates will have:Excellent organizational skills and follow-through.Experience managing schedules, programs and competing priorities.A warm, service-oriented manner with students and faculty.Initiative and the ability to solve problems independently.An interest in recruitment, marketing and growing enrollment.Comfort with bookkeeping, budgets and numbers; QuickBooks experience is desirable.Strong everyday technology and social-media skills.Experience in theater or the performing arts is welcome, but extensive arts-management experience is not required.
