Marine Engineer

Role DescriptionA Marine Engineer is responsible for operating, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing marine engines, propulsion systems, generators, and onboard mechanical equipment. The role ensures vessel machinery operates safely, reliably, and efficiently in accordance with maritime regulations, technical standards, and company procedures.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate and monitor main engines, auxiliary engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and marine machinery.Perform scheduled, preventive, and corrective maintenance on vessel machinery.Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Monitor engine-room equipment, fuel consumption, lubrication, temperatures, pressures, and operating conditions.Diagnose machinery faults and carry out repairs, adjustments, and component replacements.Maintain accurate engine-room logs, maintenance records, inspection reports, and technical documentation.Conduct testing, servicing, calibration, and commissioning of marine equipment.Follow manufacturer manuals, technical procedures, safety requirements, and maintenance schedules.Coordinate with the Captain, Chief Engineer, crew, contractors, suppliers, and shore-based technical teams.Manage spare parts, tools, lubricants, fuel, and engineering supplies.Respond to machinery breakdowns, emergencies, and equipment failures.Support dry-docking, vessel inspections, major repairs, modifications, and maintenance projects.Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, class requirements, and applicable maritime regulations.Maintain high standards of machinery safety, environmental protection, and emergency preparedness.Identify opportunities to improve vessel reliability, fuel efficiency, equipment performance, safety, and maintenance efficiency.QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.Relevant STCW certification and Certificate of Competency (CoC) where required.Previous experience as a Marine Engineer or in vessel engineering operations is preferred.Strong knowledge of marine engines, propulsion systems, generators, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary machinery.Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, repair, and maintenance skills.Knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, classification requirements, and maritime safety standards.Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and equipment documentation.Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and emergency-response skills.Ability to work onboard vessels, at sea, and on rotating or extended shifts.Strong commitment to safety, environmental protection, technical accuracy, and operational reliability.Professional, disciplined, responsible, and safety-conscious.
