Role DescriptionA Marine Engineer / Marine Electrician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning of marine mechanical and electrical systems on vessels, offshore facilities, marine equipment, and related installations. The role ensures that propulsion systems, generators, electrical distribution, control systems, machinery, navigation equipment, and other onboard systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer specifications, vessel requirements, maritime regulations, and company standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning of marine mechanical and electrical systems.Inspect and maintain main engines, auxiliary engines, generators, pumps, compressors, motors, valves, piping systems, and other marine machinery as applicable.Install, maintain, test, and repair electrical distribution systems, switchboards, control panels, motors, generators, batteries, and electrical equipment.Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control-system faults.Conduct preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities on marine equipment.Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, equipment manuals, technical specifications, and maintenance documentation.Perform electrical testing using multimeters, insulation testers, clamp meters, diagnostic equipment, and other specialized tools.Inspect cables, wiring, terminals, connectors, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, sensors, control circuits, and electrical panels for defects or abnormal conditions.Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults affecting propulsion, navigation, communication, lighting, alarms, monitoring, and auxiliary systems.Maintain and repair marine automation, instrumentation, PLC, control, monitoring, and alarm systems where applicable.Assist with installation and maintenance of navigation, communication, safety, emergency, and vessel-monitoring equipment.Perform machinery alignment, lubrication, adjustment, calibration, component replacement, and functional testing where required.Conduct operational tests following repairs or maintenance to confirm equipment is safe, functional, and fit for service.Carry out inspections of machinery spaces, engine rooms, electrical rooms, workshops, and other technical areas.Identify signs of equipment wear, corrosion, overheating, vibration, leakage, insulation deterioration, electrical faults, and mechanical failure.Record maintenance findings and recommend corrective actions, replacement parts, repairs, or equipment improvements.Follow planned maintenance schedules and ensure maintenance tasks are completed within required timelines.Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical logs, inspection reports, repair records, equipment histories, and work orders.Coordinate with vessel crews, marine superintendents, shipyard teams, contractors, engineers, technicians, suppliers, and other technical personnel.Support vessel repairs, dry-docking, refitting, conversion, commissioning, and overhaul projects where required.Assist with installation, replacement, and commissioning of new machinery, electrical systems, control equipment, and marine components.Verify spare parts, tools, materials, and equipment requirements before commencing maintenance activities.Coordinate with procurement and stores teams to ensure required spare parts and technical materials are available.Inspect delivered components and replacement parts for specifications, condition, certification, and compatibility.Follow manufacturer recommendations, technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and approved engineering instructions.Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable maritime regulations, classification requirements, vessel procedures, and company standards.Support inspections, surveys, audits, certification activities, and regulatory checks conducted by classification societies or maritime authorities.Implement appropriate lockout/tagout, isolation, electrical safety, confined-space, hot-work, and permit-to-work procedures.Follow strict marine safety, environmental-protection, emergency-response, and occupational-health requirements.Maintain proper housekeeping, tool control, equipment protection, and cleanliness in technical and machinery areas.Report equipment failures, electrical incidents, machinery defects, safety concerns, and environmental incidents promptly.Participate in emergency response, breakdown recovery, fault isolation, and vessel-reliability activities where required.Monitor equipment performance, energy consumption, operating conditions, and recurring technical faults.Conduct root-cause analysis and support corrective and preventive action for recurring machinery or electrical failures.Assist with equipment commissioning, sea trials, harbor trials, performance testing, and system verification where applicable.Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, electricians, technicians, and vessel crew members.Maintain current knowledge of marine engineering technologies, electrical systems, automation, maritime regulations, safety practices, and industry developments.Maintain confidentiality of vessel technical information, operational data, engineering documentation, company information, and other sensitive records.Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, energy efficiency, maintenance effectiveness, vessel safety, system performance, and operational readiness.Contribute to continuous improvement of marine engineering performance, electrical reliability, preventive maintenance, regulatory compliance, operational safety, and vessel efficiency.QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Technology, or a related technical discipline.Appropriate marine engineering or electrical certification, license, or competency qualification is advantageous and may be required depending on the vessel, position, and jurisdiction.Previous experience in marine engineering, ship maintenance, shipyards, offshore operations, vessel electrical systems, marine construction, or related technical environments is preferred.Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, generators, pumps, compressors, valves, piping, and mechanical systems.Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems, switchboards, generators, motors, control panels, distribution systems, wiring, protection systems, and batteries.Good understanding of marine automation, instrumentation, PLC systems, alarms, monitoring systems, and control equipment is advantageous.Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, analytical, mechanical, electrical, and problem-solving skills.Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.Experience using electrical testing equipment, diagnostic tools, mechanical tools, and specialized marine-maintenance equipment.Good understanding of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, equipment testing, calibration, alignment, repair, and commissioning.Knowledge of maritime safety requirements, classification standards, vessel regulations, and marine engineering practices.Familiarity with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, class society requirements, and applicable maritime regulations is advantageous.Strong knowledge of electrical safety, grounding, insulation testing, circuit protection, isolation procedures, and safe working practices.Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment safety, reliability, and technical accuracy.Excellent communication, teamwork, documentation, coordination, and technical-reporting skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant maintenance-management, engineering, diagnostic, or technical software.Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and planned-maintenance systems is advantageous.Experience with shipyard projects, dry-docking, vessel commissioning, retrofitting, repairs, or equipment upgrades is advantageous.Ability to work in challenging marine environments and respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and technical emergencies.Ability to work flexible schedules, including shifts, weekends, public holidays, overtime, offshore assignments, or extended vessel rotations where required.Relevant STCW, marine engineering, electrical competency, manufacturer training, or technical certifications are advantageous depending on the role.Ability to work
