Team members join a versatile marine organization focused on safe, reliable, and efficient operations across diverse industries and geographies.Role Description The MASTER & MATE OF TOWING - INLAND - WESTER RIVERS - NEAR COASTAL role is a full-time remote position that involves overseeing towing operations for tug and barge movements across inland waterways and near coastal routes. The role includes planning and executing voyages, ensuring safe navigation, managing towing configurations, and supervising deck and wheelhouse crews in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring vessel performance, maintaining logs and documentation, coordinating with dispatch and shore-based operations, and implementing safety and environmental protection protocols. The role also requires conducting vessel inspections, overseeing cargo handling and barge positioning, and supporting incident reporting and preventive maintenance activities. The individual in this position collaborates closely with operations management to optimize routing, schedules, and service quality while promoting a culture of safety and compliance.QualificationsCandidates should possess strong vessel navigation and towing operations skills, including experience on inland rivers, Western Rivers, and near coastal routes.Candidates should possess knowledge of maritime safety, environmental protection practices, and regulatory compliance (USCG).Candidates should possess competencies in crew leadership, communication, and teamwork, with the ability to supervise and train personnel onboard.Candidates should possess skills in voyage planning, logkeeping, and basic vessel performance monitoring, including use of navigation and communication equipment.Candidates should possess familiarity with tug and barge configurations, cargo handling practices, and barge positioning for a variety of marine projects and industries.USCG Master or Mate of Towing endorsement and other required licenses and certifications for western rivers, inland, and near coastal service are required for applicable routes.Ability to work in a remote, rotational marine environment, maintain focus over extended operations, and adapt to changing weather and traffic conditions.High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced maritime training or completion of approved maritime academies or programs is beneficial.
