Our work is based in Malta and the Central Mediterranean, so you run real operations towing, salvage, pontoon installation, dredging support, offshore works and come back alongside. For a master who is tired of long rotations away from home, that difference is the whole point.About Sammut MarineSammut Marine Limited (C 82608) started in 2009 as a boat yard handling winter storage. Since then we have grown into one of the fastest-developing marine services companies in Malta, covering insurance, maintenance, towing, salvage, underwater works, pontoon installation and offshore support. We bought our first commercial vessel in 2014 — today we run tugs, crane barges, hopper barges, pontoons and supply vessels, and we operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.We are in the middle of a significant fleet expansion: additional hopper barges, a 30-tonne bollard pull tug and two 24 m supply vessels are joining the fleet. We need masters to grow with it.Our crews are genuinely international. We already employ a strong Indonesian and multinational seagoing team on our Malta-flagged vessels, and English is the working language across the fleet. You will not be the only one finding your feet here — you will be joining people who have already done it.What you will be doingCommanding and navigating company vessels safely and efficiently in Maltese and Central Mediterranean watersPlanning and executing marine operations: towing, salvage, pontoon and mooring installation, dredging support and offshore servicesLeading and managing the crew on board — watchkeeping, drills, discipline, training and day-to-day welfareEnsuring full compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, MLC 2006, Malta flag requirements and company proceduresSupervising vessel maintenance and monitoring machinery, deck gear and equipment performanceAssessing sea state, weather and operational risk continuously, and making the call when conditions changeCoordinating with the shore-based operations team, port authorities, class surveyors and clientsKeeping accurate logs, voyage records, checklists and incident reportsWhat we are looking forCertificationValid STCW II/2 Master's Certificate of Competency — unlimited, or limited to vessels under 3,000 GTCertificate issued by an STCW White List administration and recognised by, or eligible for recognition under, the Malta flag (we assist with the Certificate of Recognition)Valid STCW basic and advanced safety training, medical fitness certificate and seafarer's discharge bookAdditional certification in firefighting, first aid / medical care, or commercial diving is a strong assetExperienceProven command experience on commercial vesselsHands-on background in towing, salvage, offshore support or workboat operations — tug, multicat, crane barge, hopper or supply vessel experience is highly valuedPractical understanding of vessel maintenance and machinery, not just bridge workComfortable in confined harbour and near-shore work, alongside cranes, barges and dive teamsThe personStrong seamanship, ship handling and situational awarenessConfident with navigational instruments, GMDSS and marine communication systems, ECDIS and standard maritime softwareA leader people follow — able to run a multinational crew with clarity, fairness and respectCalm under pressure, decisive, and able to solve problems with the resources actually on boardGood working English, spoken and writtenPhysically fit and willing to work irregular hours in demanding marine conditions as part of a 24/7 operationWhy Malta, and why usWork close to home base.
