Apply & track with Apply EdgeMechanical Design EngineerA pioneering clean energy technology company is developing advanced electrochemical hardware to support the transition towards more sustainable energy systems. Following recent growth and investment, the business is expanding its engineering capability as it develops its technology from early-stage R&D towards scalable commercial production. This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of the detailed mechanical design of innovative hardware, turning early-stage concepts into robust, manufacturable products. You will be the CAD and detailed-design expert within a multidisciplinary engineering team, working closely with R&D engineers, scientists, suppliers and manufacturing partners to develop components and assemblies that perform effectively and can be reliably manufactured.Key Responsibilities – Mechanical Design EngineerTake early-stage engineering concepts through detailed mechanical design and towards manufacture.Own the development of complex 3D CAD models, components and mechanical assemblies.Produce high-quality engineering drawings, including appropriate tolerances and GD&T.Translate first-principles engineering requirements and R&D findings into detailed mechanical designs.Design components with manufacturing, assembly, inspection, reliability and scalability in mind.Apply DFM and DFA principles throughout the product development process.Work directly with suppliers and manufacturing partners to understand production constraints and improve designs.Develop prototypes and work through rapid design-build-test-iterate cycles.Support prototype builds, manufacturing trials and the transition towards repeatable production.Investigate build, quality and manufacturing issues and translate findings into design improvements.Own or contribute to CAD/PDM systems, drawing standards, revision control and engineering change processes.Work closely with engineers, scientists, technicians, manufacturing and quality teams throughout the development lifecycle.Experience & Skills – Mechanical Design EngineerSignificant experience in mechanical design, product development or a closely related hardware engineering role.Expert-level 3D CAD capability, ideally with extensive experience designing complex components and assemblies.Strong engineering drawing capability, including GD&T, tolerancing and tolerance stack-ups.Proven experience taking products or components from early-stage concepts through detailed design and towards manufacture.Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).Experience designing physical components rather than primarily integrating or packaging existing systems.Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and how manufacturing constraints influence mechanical design.Experience working directly with external suppliers and manufacturing partners.Hands-on experience supporting prototype builds, testing and design iteration.Comfortable developing hardware where requirements may still be evolving and the final solution is not already defined.Experience with PDM/PLM, engineering change control, revision management and controlled design release.Strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate manufacturing or build failures.Comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D/startup environment and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. If you are interested in this position, please apply with an up-to-date CV through the application below.
