Apply & track with Apply EdgeJob Summary:We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with 5–8 years of relevant experience in automotive, heavy vehicle, military vehicle, defense, or specialized vehicle systems. The candidate should have strong capabilities in mechanical design, assembly integration, vehicle structures, engineering calculations, fabrication, and failure investigation.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and integrate mechanical parts, sub-assemblies, and complete assemblies for wheeled and tracked military vehicles.Develop mechanical components and systems using SolidWorks including parts, assemblies, weldments, structures, and detailed manufacturing drawings.Develop kinematic systems and functional mechanical assemblies, including mechanisms, linkages, mounts, actuators, and dynamic assembliesDevelop detailed technical concepts, design proposals, engineering specifications, and design solutions based on vehicle requirements.Take ownership of assemblies and subsystems throughout the development process, from initial concept and 3D design through verification, validation, and final drawing release.Perform engineering calculations related to loads, stresses, fatigue, vibration, and mechanical performance.Initiate, coordinate, support, and document design verification and validation activities, including testing and inspection.Create and maintain parts lists, BOMs, component structures, configurations, and engineering documentation.Process engineering design changes and change workflows, ensuring technical documentation and drawings are updated accordingly.Conduct and support internal design reviews and technical discussions with multidisciplinary teams.Design and develop welded structures, brackets, frames, chassis components, mounts, and fabricated assemblies in accordance with applicable fabrication and welding standards.Apply relevant mechanical design, manufacturing, welding, GD&T, material, and engineering standards/codes.Conduct FRACAS investigations, root-cause analysis, and failure investigations using factual evidence, engineering analysis, testing, and field data.Identify problems and propose practical engineering solutions, supported by calculations, testing, standards, and engineering judgment.Analyze and address mechanical vibration, resonance, fatigue, mounting, isolation, and vibration-related failures.Support prototype development, fabrication, assembly, vehicle integration, testing, troubleshooting, and field implementation.Coordinate with and provide technical direction to subcontractors, suppliers, and temporary engineering/design staff involved in design activities.Work closely with manufacturing, maintenance, testing, supply chain, electrical, systems, and other engineering teams.Apply a basic understanding of military vehicle architecture, armored/protected vehicle design, and armoring concepts.Demonstrate basic understanding of electrical and electromechanical systems and their mechanical integration.Ensure assigned engineering activities and deliverables are completed on time and to the required technical standard.Required Experience & QualificationsBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.5–8 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical design and engineering.Experience in military vehicles, armored vehicles, wheeled/tracked vehicles, or specialized vehicle systems is strongly preferred.Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks, including part and assembly design, large/complex assemblies, weldments and structural design, engineering drawings, BOMs and parts lists, and design modifications/configuration management.Strong understanding of mechanical engineering calculations and design principles.Very good understanding of fabrication, weldment codes, structural standards, and manufacturing processes.Good understanding of mechanical vibrations and vibration-related failure mechanisms.Experience with FRACAS, root-cause analysis, failure investigation, and corrective actions.Understanding GD&T, tolerancing, materials, machining, welding, sheet-metal fabrication, and manufacturing methods.Experience with design verification and validation and technical documentation.Ability to develop and communicate technical concepts and specifications.Basic understanding of military vehicle design, protected/armored structures, and vehicle systems.Experience coordinating or supervising subcontractors, suppliers, or junior/temporary engineering personnel is an advantage.
